Has anyone experienced ulcers with the Lapband?

I had the band for 4 years and started having problems with it. I would always have pain while eating and would have to vomit frequently. I had to go to the ER on Labor Day to have the fluid removed because I couldn't even get liquids down...the pain was really bad! They did an EGD and found duodenitis, esophagitis, dilation of the esophagus, GERD, and a severe hiatal hernia and they attributed it all to the band.  I had to have it removed and the hernia repaired and I just had the surgeon revise me to a RNY.  I am very happy now because there is no more pain, vomiting, and heartburn. Best decision I ever made!!!  Your friend needs to get checked out. Her band could even be eroding through the stomach lining. There are still a lot of options for her, but if the band is causing serious problems then she will be better off having it dealt with right away!

I am so glad that I read your post & the others in this feed. I am experiencing pretty much the exact same symptoms as you Jamie. My esophagus & stomach is causing me a little pain & causing GERD, acid reflux, etc. I am going tomorrow to have a barium swallow/fluoro at True Results to see what my options are. My sleep at night is constantly interrupted by regurgitation. Thanks so much for posting!

When I had the barium swallow/UGI it showed I was fine. It took being scoped from the inside to find/see the damage. Same symptoms.

Did she have an ultra sound? I have a lot of pain too. I just found out I have multiple gall stones. I have to get my gallbladder out next week. She needs to follow up with Dr. Ask for an ultrasound. Best of luck

Thank u everyone for ur feedback. She has already had her gallbladder out so she knows its not that. She called me yesterday on the way to get a GI. She had gone to the ER the night before for the pain. She then found out last night that her band had slipped and needs to come out ASAP. I asked her if she was gonna try for a revision or get a new band but she is in so much pain and so sick of it. She said she would rather be fat again than deal with this.

Your poor friend. I hope the band removal goes well and she'll be okay.

It sounded like a slip. Tell here good luck with her removal surgery. She may want to think about a revision after a few months. Resting her tummy can do nothing but, good.

I recommend that she find a wls surgeon to take a closer look.  It could be that her band has slipped, which can become life threatening, or it is starting to erode into her stomach.  Any serious pain is not to be taken lightly
