Hysterectomy after Lap-band? Issues??

Hi, I had lap band surgery 5 years ago and I am having gynecological problems and need to have a hysterectomy. The surgeon has concerns about adhesions that may be internal after having lap band surgery and I wanted to see if anyone has had a Hysterectomy after Lap-Band surgery.

This website was such a wonderful help to me before and after my surgery thought this is where I might find the help/support I need.

Hi Shana,

I had a partial hysterectomy shortly after band removal (about a year later) and I did have a lot of adhesions. I had to have an open incision surgery.  My doctor didn't report any problems otherwise, though, and I don't  believe the recuperation was out of the ordinary at all.

Take care, good luck. I hope all goes well for you.

I also had a partial (uterus only) hysterectomy 3 years post band surgery and had no issues at all.  In fact, it was a very similar healing process to when I was banded except getting out of bed was much, much easier because I had lost 100 lbs!!

Best~

I had a partial hysterectomy about 2 1/2 years after my lap band surgery and everything went just fine. I didn't have any problems at all. My hysterectomy was an open incision, but it wasn't due to my lap band. I had endometriosis knots that had to be removed in my lower abdomen. Everything went according to plan and my recovery was fine. It was a hard surgery to recover from, but it would have been with or without my lap band. It is a major surgery, but it just takes time to recover. I have had 2 c-sections, lap band surgery, and the partial hysterectomy. The hysterectomy was the worse surgery of them all, but it just took time to recover. After about a year I felt completely back to myself. Of course I felt better sooner than a full year later, but it was about a year later when I felt completely 100% back to my old self.

I had a radical hysterectomy (everything including lymph nodes from uterine cancer) about 2 years after my lap band and did not have any issues with adhesions or anything.

Hope your surgery goes well.

I had a radical hysterectomy about 10 months after my lapband surgery and had lymphnodes removed as well. I have had no adhesion issues I am aware of. I have had ongoing problems with bloating, gas, and constipation, along with some stomach pain. It just seemed like everything was repositioned. I have had no issues with the lapband though.
