I am curious about others experiences with pregnancy and the Lap Band.  I am 6 years out and 5 1/2 months pregnant.  This week I have an appointment with a new surgeon to discuss pain I have been having in my port and the possibility of a fill/unfill.  I think neither is necessary, I am able to eat properly and get the right nutrients with no problem.

I have had two babies after my band, and the port will hurt some when you get to be larger it puts pressure on scar tissue. It usually goes away but as the baby grows and moves in certain spots it will hurt.

I did not have anything unfilled during the last pregnancy and did well. Just make sure that if you start to feel too much restriction have some fluid removed. I have see a few women who were tight then after birth and all the stress it causes on your body they had to have emergency unfills right after birth and it was hard on them.

You should visit the pregnancy after WLS board for more information or just ask me.

Congratulations!

I was banded 12/09 and got pregnant 03/11. At first, all was great. My OB/GYN didn't want me to get unfilled since I was able to eat fine and just kept a close watch on my labs and baby's growth. She didn't want my weight gain to get out of control. Then at about 6 months, I started having killer acid reflux. They assumed my band slipped at some point (maybe from morning sickness) and drained the saline from my band for my stomach to fall back in place. That worked for about six months, but then out of nowhere, I started getting sick sometimes even from fluids. At the end of January, we found out my band has a major slip. Not sure what cause this one since I wasn't having any problems for so long. The surgeon and I considered it may have been from pushing during delivery (2.5 hours). Either way, the band has to come out now. Just waiting for insurance approval. Not trying to scare you....just sharing my experience. Also, later in my pregnancy, my daughter would kick my port like it was in her way. That was a little painful, but not too bad.

I just delivered twin girls and had no problems with my band. (They were my first pregnancy with the band but our 5th and 6th children) They were born a healthy 6lb 10 oz and 6lb 13 oz on December 29th. When I went to my band surgeon at the beginning of my pregnancy I actually got a fill to keep up on the restriction. I had healthy restriction during the pregnancy and my ob dr. was happy with the amount of weight I gained. I'm back "on track" again and recently had a fill with my surgeon. In my 11cc band I am at 11cc full. I expect at my next appt in 2 weeks they will do a residual to see how much is actually in the band now because I have very minimal restriction.

Good luck in your pregnancy!

Angie
