I would expect a lot of swelling and a need to be on liquids for a week or so, then progressing to full liquids, soft food, mushies to normal food over 2 weeks or so.
I would stock up on some liquid extra strength Tylenol or a generic equivalent if I were you
i could, not swallow pain meds after my band and hernia surgery, so I took the liquid.

I had a hiatal hernia repair, old 4cc band removed and new AP band installed all in one surgery over 3 months ago, and it was much more easier than my first lap band placement. If I have to get a new band or hernia repair every 8 years and have the same smooth recovery, it will be well worth it for me.
I did have some initial swelling, but not too bad, I took lortab for pain, I also had some mild shoulder and diaphragm pain, but it went away after about 3 weeks post op, but I am sure that was caused by the surgery itself and stitching the band in place again. But I have no pain now, I don't even feel any port pain, I don't feel like I have a lap band unless I start eating and I have to eat slowly.
I now have very good restriction with my new AP small band, and I am very happy that I no longer have reflux and burning that I suffered through for on and off almost 7 years with my old band, I have not taken any PPi's. or acid reducers not one time with my new band, and I feel like a new woman and I thank my very skilled new surgeon.
Original Lap Band * 9/30/2005 * 4cc 10cm band*, lost 130 pounds. 7 Great years!
Revision surgery to AP small lap band *11/13/2012*, due to large hiatal hernia. I am hopeful about continuing my band journey uneventful and successful. I loved what my old band did for me and I am looking forward for my new band to Keep my weight down
