I went with my mom today for my WLS Doctors Appointment....and after his presentation, he sent us all to our individual rooms (My mom stayed with me obvi) and he showed me the band up close and personal. I chatted with my mom...I was so sure I was going to go with the RNY...and then just like that my mind was made up...I am going to be getting the Lap Band. Yes you heard me correctly...err read that correctly... I am going to get the Lap Band. My doctor allows adjustments often and frequently to maximize the amount of weight loss. I asked if he would make me decrease the amount of fluid in my ring if I were eating correctly and exercising and losing more than 2-3 pounds a week and he said OFCOURSE NOT!! He said it would be perfectly acceptable for me to lose large amounts as long as I am eating the proper foods (AKA Solids not liquids) I am stoked. He also offers anytime adjustments if something just isn't feeling right. I feel confident with my choice. He will submit my forms to my insurance tomorrow morning and hopefully my insurance will accept the procedure in 5-7 days (which is what the average is for my insurance company) I am so anxious...also due to my insurance expiring in April the Doctor and his staff are going to work in overdrive to get my surgery done anytime between next week to the beginning of March!! yes you got that right....BY THE BEGINNING OF MARCH!! I am so excited! I am that much closer to finally having the tool to change my life!! Anywho I will stop rambling. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. :)

Lap Band on 01/30/12
Congratulations on your decision! I was banded a little over a year ago (1/30/12) and have lost 149 pounds. No problems so far. I have had one, yes, one fill. Keep reading and listening to the good and bad here so that you understand what may or may not happen to you. I always believe that you need to know everything, not to scare you, but to educate you.

Welcome and keep us posted on your surgery date. I see you said your insurance end soon, what then? How will you get your followup?

I lose one insurance and get a new one. My new one doesn't cover the surgery tho. It covers what I have already had done but not the actual procedure without going through a ton of hoops... I also have a health savings account set up to help cover any unexpected cost. I have been doing research for a long time now....I have read the positives and negatives of the surgeries available to me. I feel that being educated helps keep from further complications. I am excited to have this site to help me out along my journey. You ladys are doing amazing. I hope to drop a significant amount of weight with the support of my internet friends, my boyfriend, my parents, and last but not least the skinny healthy me thats inside :) I appreciate you ladys!!

Are you aware that the band is not designed as a permanent surgery, it is only good for 5-10 years maximum. You will also need to make sure your new insurance will cover your fills especially if it doesn't cover bariatric surgery. Also the average safe weight loss with a band is 1-2 lbs a week, and it is not safe to get fills too close together, it can often take a week or more for them to kick in. It usually takes a year or more to lose your weight with the band. Your doctor's attitude frankly worries me it is not the usual professional presentation. I'm not a band advocate but that aside your doctor is actually rather frightening and what he is telling you is not the standard that the majority of doctors tell their patients, please be careful.

Orrniks, you probably won't be laughing quite as hard after you're banded, I'm sorry to say.  The band is horrible. I believed all the good stuff before having surgery, too. The reality is a lot less funny.  But, like the thousand other people I've tried to warn before you, it won't be until after you go through it that you'll realize how many of us are trying to help you not make a huge mistake.

I wish you could see it before it's too late.
