Re-banded yesterday

After suffering from horrible acid reflux for several months, I had an upper GI and discovered that my band had completely slipped. Three days later I was in the  OR, and had a new band placed, along with new tubing. It has been more than three years since my original band was put in and I feel like a newbie again.

A quick question for all of you, particularly the newer folks to the band. Its only been 36 hours and I am feeling crazy restriction even on an all liquid diet. I take a sip of water and feel like I just ate an entire large meal. Can someone tell me if this is normal. I honestly do not remember from the first time.

I remember from the first time that it took me 30 minutes to get down 2 ounces of liquid Tylenol

I was very swollen for the first 3 or 4 days.

hang in there and do your best to stay hydrated

Thanks Ladies, it was a pretty rough day yesterday. Taking it SLOWWW today, and hoping it's better than yesterday.

I was rebanded a month ago and yes it is very difficult to drink at the beginning. To slow me down for the first week, I drank with a teaspoon. It will get better. I am a month out and am drinking fairly normal. My first fill is tomorrow.

Good Luck!

Good to know! The teaspoon is a great idea. I actually got about 5 teaspoons of broth this afternoon and about 1/2 of a protein shake. So things are a bit better. Hate going through this again but its worth it to be healthy. Best part is, no reflux! It had gotten so bad I was not sleeping through the night and would wake up choking on acid. GROSS!

I understand! I actually had a hiatel hernia very close to the band and the band was not in place no wonder I had NO restriction at all and was gaining.

I am feeling much better.  The first two weeks were slow. I was doing 1/2 a shake at a time. Be very careful to keep hydrated. So even though it is hard keep doing teaspoons of water or gatorade.

I am at week 4 and I am soo happy I am getting a fill tomorrow!  Hang in there!

I am excited for you!  My doctor and I are waiting to see if I will need a re-do or not.  Fingers crossed that my band and I can work it out.

As far as your question goes, I had a journal from back then & looked it up.  I was so shocked at how little fluids I could take in at once, my WLS staff has their patients just use the little medicine cups for water so it can be tracked.  Also helped feel like I was accomplishing something when I could see I'd finished a whole "cup".

Highest 298; Pre-op: 279; PreOp BMI 41.  CW: 188 & Current BMI: 30!!!!! Thank you Lord for Dr Nair!!!
1st Goal 248;  2nd Goal 230 met!!!! 7/2010;  3rd Goal 215 - met 9/18/10!!!; 4th Goal 200 - 12/20/2010...  Surgeons goal met - I'd like to lose a litte more.

Good luck to you! Thank you for keeping  such great records and being able to share them with me. Every day seems to be a bit better,

I am glad you have some time to wrap your head around the possibility of surgery again, I only had a couple of days to prepare and with having to arrange time out of the office and get people up to speed on my projects plus get my family and house ready I feel like I barely had time to think about it much less prepare.

I will be going out to the store with my DH today to get a small medicine cup to track fluid intake. We have been snowed in for the last few days here in New England so it's been impossible to go anywhere.

I had my band repositioned today. I too am not hungry at all. That was how it was the first time around as well.

Looking forward to starting the weight loss journey again. Originally lost 72 lbs (237-165 in 9 months) but have regained about 30 lbs due to a variety of band and personal issues.

Fresh start. So excited.
