Soon to be BOB and scared

I've seen several people that have had this and done well Heather Cross comes to mind. For some reason I haven't seen as many issues with BOBs as with virgin bands, not sure why unless it's just too new and haven't gotten to the point where bands start having issues. Just remember you still have to do your part with diet, etc. but it can work very well.
If you have to pay out of pocket make sure of you what you are getting. How much does there fee cover? The is the tool that keeps on taking. You need a very, very good relationship with your surgeon and tons of follow up with the band to succeed. And all this after care cost $$$$.
The band is the last thing I would recommend to a self pay and they get taken in by the initial up front cost. So, see how much after care is included. Find out the cost of a fill and remember this is the same for an Unfill (my center any thing after 48 hours some no matter what.) The last 30 months with the band I was in 46 times. Also if the band slips of erodes, another surgery out of pocket. It goes on and on. Once your get the info for your center. Look at these cost compared to the other when making a decision.
Good luck with your choice but, go in with open eyes!
Purely anecdotal, I know nothing about actual successes/problems. But Heathercross on here has been very successful and I know one person IRL who has had BOB and done well.
But if you are self pay, remember the aftercare costs.

Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
My ears were burning. Heather Cross here. Now on here much bc I have my life back and I'm back to my RNY weight (lower actually) and life is good. I love my Band over Bypass (BOB). But, as much as I love it, there are days I don't 'like it'. I cannot eat bread (AT ALL). I cannot eat quickly. Some days I throw everything and anything up. Some days I can eat a HORSE and PIG and a side of fries. But, most days if not all days, I have restriction after about 1-1/2 cups of food and I am full for hours. I am also NEVER hungry! Never.
I had my BOB in June of 2011. I was at 250. I am now at 170ish. I haven't lost anything in 3-4 mos - probably since the hurricane bc I wasn't walking as much and Im working 60+ hours a week. I also gained 10lbs over xmas as I had the flu and was on steroids which make you eat 24/7. I've since dropped that 10lbs - it took like a week.
I think what you need is to stay off these boards, talk to people who've been thru what you've been thru before with the RNY and also you've had the BOB (most of my 'friends' on my profile have) and I also think you need a support group, a great doctor and you need to be patient. THIS IS NOT THE RNY - THIS IS A TOOL FAR DIFFERENT THAN THE RNY! This surgery is 1000X harder than the RNY. Weight loss isn't given. This is alike a diet. If you work it, exercise and respect it, it will be your best friend - as it is mine.
BOB is a great tool. I have been very successful using it. Someone mentioned that it was a fairly new procedure and that they do not know much about it. I have had BOB for three years. I really can not express how in love I am with this tool. YES, you must work the tool like all of the others, but I feel like you have the advantage of having had RNY and the benefits you get from less absorption as well as the restriction is a win win situation. I found that support group was a huge help in the beginning. I was VERY hungry until I could eat solids. Best of luck to you.
