I was wondering if anyone has had their WLS done at UIC. If so can you please tell me what to expect? I have my information session on March 6!!! Excitingly nervous.

I didn't have my surgery done there, but I've been treated there for band complications.

Have you looked into all options for WLS? The band statistics simply are not good at all. (I had mine done in 2003 and had nothing but misery. Had emergency removal.)

Please Google -- Lap Band +  referred left shoulder pain before making your final decision. Also Google--- Lap Band Failure rates. It's important to know ALL information before making a life altering decision.

I wish you the best. Sorry if I sound like I'm out to  rain on your parade. It's not my intention, honestly. I just have to speak up because I couldn't live with myself if I didn't say something. Please don't believe the advertising at the information session without researching A LOT.

Welcome Tami,

For every failure there is success! And this goes for the lap band, Sleeve, Gastric Bypass and the DS. All surgeries have risks, I chose the surgery that I could live with and I am very happy with my band.

That being said, getting prepared for wl surgery can get quite scary, and very exciting at the same time. I just had a new band placed because I had an undiagnosed hiatal hernia, and my surgeon removed my old band that is no longer being used and gave me the newer safer band and I am very happy with it so far.

For newly banded people,  would think you would have a pre op diet? Some surgeons require it and some don't. Also make sure you have researched that it takes about 1-3 fills before you reach your sweet spot.

I did not have much pain after surgery, I was back to normal within about 1 week, the only pain I had was the first 2 days and that was from the surgery itself, I had some shoulder pain, but nothing too bad. It finally went away within a month post op.

The things that repaired me for surgery was:

1. Heat pad

2. Tylenol or Lortab for pain.

3. Recliner, sleeping in the bed was uncomfortable the first week.

4. Popcycles, jello, cystal lite, broth, Unjury protein shakes.

Good luck on your surgery.

I'm reading some of the post and viewing the before and after pictures and I am so excited to think that this to can be my situation. I've been overweight for 6 1/2 years and it has been a struggle because I became obese well into my 30s but I'm taking it one day at a time one step at a time but thank you for all your support.

You should try popsicles instead of popcycles... the wheels might get stuck in your throat, otherwise.
