Band to Sleeve Revisioners - How are you able to lose weight?
Thank you for sharing that study....I think the idea of reducing ghrelin is what drew me most to the sleeve as the revision option for me.

I was curious of how many newly post op Sleevers were able to lose a lot of weight if they were able to eat more than 1 cup of solid food. The lap band diet is SUPPOSE to be the healthiest -- hence why weight loss tends to be slower, since the band cannot be 'safely' tighten to the point of liquids.
It's not the quantity of food that leads to weight loss, it's the quality. If you can eat a cup of leafy greens, tomatoes, peppers, onions, celery, carrots with lemon juice, olive oil and salt/pepper along with your 3 oz lean protein, you will lose. Eating a half cup composed of 3 oz dense lean protein without a side of raw, fiber rich veggies (eating cooked veggies that are band friendly) is not healthy and can lead to other digestive issues. It might be the same calories, but it is much more nutrient rich and balanced than our band "diet".I always hated that I could never eat eggs or fresh fruit with my band.....you make a sold point here about quality food with the sleeve vs. quantity.

I feel your pain. I miss all food. I am on the Optifast800 pre-op diet for my surgery this week. It has not been easy...but I am making it.
Also feel your pain on getting to goal. My original goal was 150 but I changed it to 175 after a year with the band, since getting to 150 seemed so unrealistic. I am hoping that I can get to the 150 or close to it with my sleeve.
I wish you all the best. I know it has been a difficult road for you too with your band. I hope that you find some sort of resolution soon and that you do make it to your goal.

I eat far less with my sleeve than I did with my band. It is a more normal feeling for me, so I feel completely satisfied with the smaller amounts.
I've never dumped with the sleeve and have no food intolerances. Again, for me, the sleeve feels completely normal, I just eat far less.
I did lose my hunger and have to remember to eat so that my blood sugar doesn't get too low, but I have a brother who does not have a weight problem and no surgical modifications who has a history of hypoglycemia, so I think this may have always been in my system, but with my previously big stomach I was probably just eating so much that I never noticed the problem.
My sleeve has been truly fantastic!
Lindsey
So glad to hear the your feel normal.....I loved my band, but it sure never felt "normal".....and, the complications started. I am happy that there are so many successful band to sleeve patients to look up too. Thanks for sharing!

I have to tell you after having both this is my experience:
Sleeve: 2 -4 oz of solid protein
LapBand: 8oz to 10 oz of solid protein
Sleeve: NO hunger sensations
LapBand: Hungry after 4 hours if my fill was adequate, hungry at 2 hours if it was time for a fill
Sleeve: NO dumping, NO hypoglycemia
LapBand: NO dumping,NO hypoglycemia
Sleeve: Losing weight at a rate of 2 to 4 lbs a week. Started losing from my first day post op.
LapBand: Lost well initially and then each time it was time for a fill, I stalled.
Sleeve: I can eat anything! Broccoli, cauliflower, chicken breasts, anything. I don't have to add gravy or dressing to it to make it more palatable. My calories are saved for other things.
LapBand: Could not eat chicken, turkey, steak or anything unless it had gravy or dressing and it was the dark meat. No breast meat. Steak had to be medium rare. could not be cooked to medium well. I hated it. So I never ate it.
Sleeve: I can eat out with friends and dates without the fear of sliming or getting stuck!
LapBand: I had to keep an eye for the bathroom and sit on the end of the booth for fear I got stuck and had to run to vomit!
Breakfast: 1 egg
Snack: 1 Morningstar farms veggies breakfast sausage link
Lunch: 3 oz of chicken breast in a spinach leaf wrap
Snack: 3 oz of Tuna salad
Dinner: 3 oz of Turkey chili
With the Lapband, I couldn't eat until afternoon. I had to many times drink my breakfast. I am able to eat breakfast now and have never had a stuck or slime episode!
Two totally different surgeries! Two totally different experiences! Two totally different Lifestyles!
I am loving my Sleeve!
Lastly Nana, in your attempt to once again discredit the Sleeve, I think that you have done the opposite. It's good to compare the two since you think the LapBand is "the cats meow" and the Sleeve is "the cat's poo" -- I loved my Band for many years. I was probably the biggest LapBand Cheerleader in the world, but once I started watching my friends suffer great agony and problems with the Band - and then enduring my own problems, I realized there was something more out there. The Sleeve is not perfect and some have problems, but for me, it's been wonderful and I feel I have my life back and I am able to live it! I had surgery 15 weeks ago and I've lost 58 lbs. I think that is pretty darn good for a revision. How much have you lost since your revision to your new LapBand? Are you still waiting for restriction?
Lost 271lbs with my LapBand in 22 months! My Band malfunctioned and I gained almost 42lbs and then revised to the Sleeve 9/24/12! I lost another 140 lbs with my Sleeve! Loved the LapBand and Lovin' The Sleeve!
