Check out my band story on this forum.  It's long, but informative.  If you want a malabsorptive surgery, have DS.  If you want a restrictive surgery, choose sleeve.

I think a vertical sleeve gastrectomy is better than lap band. I say this only for the fact that it has much more , way more success stories than the lap band. The band has a number of complications involved.

New to this forum. I didn't want anything permanent done. I was also worried about the scar tissue since I have a tendency to keloid. Another reason is I know five people who has had gastric by pass, and unfortunately they have put their weight back on or gained a significant amount back. I wanted something that can be adjusted. Another reason was I wanted a slow weight loss. I didn't want to lose my hair (had many problems with alopecia in the past and was tired of waiting for my hair to grow back lol) and I can't afford plastic surgery so the slower I lost weight, the more likely my skin would adapt. I don't regret my decision. I love my lap band. It has been life changing for me.  :)

There is just as much scarring with a band vs. bypass.

Hair loss isn't from rate of weight loss, it is due to having surgery.  Any surgery such as WLS, appendix, gallbladder, it can be from childbirth, major trauma in your life, anything.  Some lose hair and some don't.

All WLS types have regain, bands actually have a higher rate than bypass.  Not by much, but it is still higher.

Your skin isn't going to snap back due to slow weight loss, that depends on genetics, age, amount of weight lost, smoking history, and amount of time you have been heavy.

People who have the Gastric Bypass have a higher chance of losing hair than the band or VSG usually because the restriction and malabsorption of calories are more extreme. Having said that, if one follows your surgeon's advice and take in more protein and take supplements, it can help. As far as the skin is concerned, while it's true genetics plays a role, it's also true that the quicker the weight loss, the greater the likelihood for loose skin. Keeping hydrated and exercising may help.

Not really.  Not initial hair loss.  It is from the trauma of surgery.  If anyone does not keep up on protein then sure, they can lose more.  But the initial hair loss is indeed from surgery and that is why it can happen with any surgery type, weight loss or other.

All exercise is going to do for flabby skin is full it out a bit with muscle.  It's not going to change the damage and scarring to the tissues.  Exercise doesn't make stretch marks go away.
