Why all of a "Sudden" Band Removals and "Problems" Shocking?

I've had a band inside my body going on 8 years now and let's see...back in 2005 when I joined Obesity Help and lurked other banding website for research purposes, the SAME problems were happening.

1. There was slippage

2. There was pouch and esophageal dilations

3. There were a few band erosions.

4. There were other problems that were caused no fault of the patient, their bodies rejected the band.

5. Some people had problems so severe that the band had to removed in emergency

But guess what? Those are the risks we take with the band, and the Sleeve and Bypass has their own set of risks. Despite ALL the small aggravating complications the Lap Band can have, IT IS STILL THE SAFEST weight loss surgery OF ALL, and that IS A FACT, until the Medical community change that I will believe it.

Band removals ARE NOT SHOCKING, most of them are preventable, if people understand the warnings, get educated on "WHAT IS TOO TIGHT" and not keep a too tight band to lose weight and BY ANY means necessary OR, they just can't afford to get a needed unfill because it cost too much money, or the drive back to their surgeon is too far.

Losing weight with the band can be tough, it also can be aggravating if the person is not filled properly, also some people that want their bands removed will say--- Oh I have not been able to eat solid food in 3 years *Gasp* I wonder if their surgeon KNOWS THIS, I am sure if they reported to their surgeon that they cannot eat solid food, the surgeon would remove some saline immediately...but hey ARE they REALLY being HONEST about their complications? In the Lap band Guide it mentions that SHOULD ALWAYS BE ABLE TO EAT SOLID FOOD AT ALL TIMES...but many people who have to get their bands removed report they were never able to eat "Healthy Food" they are telling on themselves right there, with a PROPERLY restricted band you should be able to eat a small amount of SOLID FOOD and if chewed properly you should not have vomiting.

Let's face it the band can be a PAIN in the a@@, if you have a surgical team that do not know what they are doing, if they puncture your tubing and not fill the band properly.

The band bashing is getting old, and it REALLY looks stupid for people to gang up on newbies and tell them what to do with their bodies, if someone is SO VULNERABLE to come here and say they are "NEW" and getting the band in a few days and then some "band basher" tells them that they will lose their home and life savings and be "damaged for life" if they choose the band and it's not reversible AND THEY ACTUALLY BELIEVE IT --....and they should choose the Sleeve instead and their life will get rich, meet a gorgeous spouse, and they will look glamorous and live "happily ever after" with great restriction, NO side effects or nausea, or GOD AWFUL heartburn and bile reflux, strictures, hard to treat leaks, and oh that quietly kept dumping syndrome AND when lap banders complain about heartburn and reflux -- the bashers tell them to get the band removed because it's a piece of crap  but when Sleevers get heartburn or reflux or *gasp* hunger they quietly tell them to take their PPi (acid reducer).... You see where this is heading...sarcastically

And then they point newbies to the Revision board...BUT..BUT BUT....it's FULL of Sleevers and Bypass folks looking for help since their "permanent tool' no longer works...but HEY...anyone looking to get their bands removed...the bashers cheer them up and say...OH YEA...that band is a piece of crap....get the Sleeve or Bypass and your life will be much much better...BUT OH WAIT.....The Sleeve person is saying, they have god awful heartburn and hiatal hernia and they have no more stomach to fix it...and now they are screwed...BUT..BUT..BUT...someone else has a band to be removed and it has ruined their "bodies"..but yet someone with the Bypass is looking for a revision because they have malnutrition.....

You see how dumb this is beginning to look? Please band bashers get another god awful hobby...and let the medical community decided when and IF we should no longer get a lap band....they have not taken it off the market in over 20 years and THE SAME problems have been occuring.....if the band stays too tight and someone has no aftercare...there will be continue shocking removals....again, there are always complications associated with each and every surgical TOOL, even when we do OUR part -- those are the risks we take when signing the dotted line to get weight loss surgery and EACH and EVERY surgery comes with RISK...none are complication free or magic wands....

Have a good Friday...kiss

Well stated, but good luck with that. The band bashers have nothing better to do unfortunately.

It's disgusting to see them constantly jump down someone's throat they don't agree with, be it someone who's had a successful experience, someone who is providing more information that the band is no better or worse than its counterparts of the sleeve or RNY, someone asking a question, etc.

It's a shame that we can't agree to just disagree and leave it at that without the additional vitriol.

You sure have a selective memory, Naomi. I seem to remember people putting aside past differences and supporting you when you were experiencing band problems (yet again.)  I don't recall seeing anyone "bashing" you during your trials or after.

You really do talk too much, though. Is it really necessary to write a book in every post?   So, you don't like it when people say "negative" things about the band. Who cares?  What happened to your happy band group where you could extol the virtues of the band all day long? That's why you created that group, right?

Here on the LAP BAND BOARD, you're going to hear the truth about the lap band. And yet another overly long, drawn out, whiny thread started by you isn't going to change it.

(And I've been talking about band problems since 2003... there's nothing "sudden" about my opinion. I thought the band was **** back then and I really think it's **** now.)

Nic, actually I was not picking on YOU this time,  it was the ******** bashers on the MAIN BOARD...leading were that women with the little "doggie avatar" who were leading Bypass folks that NEVER had a band and all this poster did was saying that she was getting the band next week ...and what did she say that for and the wolfs ganged up on her, she was not looking for negativity she was looking for support...EVERY SINGLE person that gets the band DO NOT have issues, she could be one that never have any problems.

Hopefully for HER she has already researched the band and it's potential problems IF she said she was having surgery next week. It's disgusting and a disgrace...what if everyone attacked every newbie that was getting the Sleeve or bypass? And told them that they would end up on a feeding tube, lose their jobs, run up thousands of dollars in medical costs from being in the ICU with home nurses and suffer malnutrition, life threatening leaks, strictures, bowel obstructions, and the list goes on...and this DOES happen with both Sleeve and Gastric bypass surgeries and don't happen to lap banders...what if folks did that. I Felt sorry for the girl, getting any type of surgery is scary and when you get beat up and attacked just posting...."My surgery is next week and it's a lap band" is actually shameful.

And YES...you were in that post with all your links to horrific problems that CAN happen with the bandmail....you know if I posted Horrific stories and complications with both Sleeve, Bypass and DS, my post would get reported over and over again....it's just like a conspiracy to CHASE ANY new lap banders away...and it's WORKING....BUT WHAT'S NOT WORKING IS STOPPING PEOPLE from getting the band, The Lap band IS STILL the number two surgery in the US from the Bypass despite all the negative drama from the abuse from those 1800 clinics.

You really need to stop it, because it no longer make any sense especially when MANY people are on the revision board SEEKING the band, band over bypass and Sleeve seeking a revision to bypass...or DS...the band bashing is getting old.

This has NOTHING to do with your complication, I've supported you over and over again with the problems you;ve had, and I am sure everyone feels bad for you and your horrific problem with your band, but saying to newbies that their live with be much BETTER with the Bypass or Sleeve is a disservice when these Surgeries carry more risk and they are not reversible and they have proven to NOT be effective long term.

It just seems MORE fake and phony the more you COMPLAIN about the band....that's all I am saying....there comes a time to move on....and I don't blame Allergan for looking for a buyer....I would not want to listen to all these nagging complaints with it over and over and over again, especially when surgeons are not following rules and patients abusing it.

Yay. Another book to try to wade through. I can't get past, "wolfs." Seriously. Wolves? Is this what you mean?  It would be funny except it's so damned sad.

I can't read all of this nonsense. I'm going to say it again: You talk too much... and it's always in LOL cat speak. It's really difficult to take anything you say seriously at ALL.

There can be only one reason for this post...you're daring the "bashers" to bash. Stating ones experience with the band when it has been problematic isn't bashing, and just because one disagrees with you, doesn't make them a basher. It's ok to have an opinion and share it, that is the nature of a forum.

My band has settled down for now, but I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

or another possible option is that she's voicing what others like myself have been wondering. i don't think she's taunting the known bashers to attack, i could be wrong on that, but in any case she's asking something that i've questioned as of late. there has seemed to have been an increasing number of band bashing within the past week or so. to offer one's opinion is one thing, but to attack someone for supporting band WLS or for stating their opinion is quite another. the increase of the latter is unfortunate and rather disheartening.

Really...one post about band problems is an increase over zero I guess.
