I recently had my lapband surgery the last week of November ....I'm not scheduled to have my first fill until mid-January 2013....I lost 20 pounds pre-surgery and only 6 pounds post surgery at the 2 wk mark.....it's now been over 30 days since my procedure and I feel no restriction and am going up 3 lbs......down 3 lbs.....and up again!  Will I get on track once I have my first fill where I will start losing a significant amount of weight....at least in the double digits?

Oh dear you probably won't feel much restriction until you have had several fills, everyone is different but I didn't feel any until I had about 5ccs. Even then it wasn't enough to really take away hunger, it was all me limiting how much I ate and I was always hungry. You won't lose a significant amount of weight all at once like the bypass. With the band you are considered successful if you lose 1-2 lbs a week. It is a long slow process, I never lost double digits, ever. Good luck and you may want to scale back some of your expectations just so you aren't dissappointed.

thanks for your reply....do they start the fill 1cc at a time....or will they start at 5cc's?

They might start your fills at less than 1cc to see if you can tolerate the band having saline in it.  You're going to have to exercise a lot of patience... some people feel no restriction, no matter how much saline is in their bands while others can hardly stand any at all. And what is a comfortable level of restriction for a while might suddenly be too tight depending on inflammation in your body. There's really no such thing as "perfect restriction.' It's better to keep your band on the looser side, though, to help avoid erosion, slippage, reflux, and damage.

Hi newbie!!!
I am 5 yrs out. It is part of Bandster Hell! Not to worry, in part you are still healing. Until you get your FILL : Focus on keeping to rules, water, exercise, chewing. And make sure the protein you do consume is dense, solid. Not soo mushy & not a protein shake so much ( it's still a liquid and won't satisfy you so much).

Psychologically, are you eating from small plates and bowls, using smaller utensils to slow you down and make you believe your portions aren't so small? Lots of little things to consider and put into practise.

Also VERY IMPORTANT to remember,
The bands main purpose is to DIM our hunger and appetite! Early stages are crucial to paying attention to our body, recognizing when what is going on is EMOTIONAL EATING. I would dare to say that 90% of us never knew what true hunger was and what eating to the point of feeling "SATISFIED" is suppose to feel like. Not discounting that you are truly hungry, but it is important to pay attention to all these cues. You want your "tool" to help you, just be sure you are not solely counting on your "tool" to do all the work. When we count on it to do all the work we can set ourselves up for problems later down the road.

Each FILL is different for everybody! Some people, and I know of a mother& daughter from my doctors office who only needed 1 FILL! With each FILL there is a learning curb that comes with it. From FILL to FILL certain foods at one FILL maybe tolerable, and then by the next FILL intolerable.

Again not discounting your hunger, but very important to address all those other areas too.

True hunger is felt in your stomach not your mouth. If you are feeling hunger from your mouth it's really a craving or something emotional going on. I didn't realize how much of an emotional water I was until I got to goal.

I will post the "8 signs of emotional eating" later today, I am still in bed using my phone! You can check it out on my profile main page if you like.

Hang tough until that FILL,

thanks for your insite....greatly appreciated.....i've been trying to focus on the rules.....however drinking water slowly is hard for me and I've not had any consequences yet from not drinking slow.....I am trying to eat slower and chew longer....have to constantly remind myself.  I enjoy my shakes in the morning for breakfast.....and sometimes the protein chicken soup in the afternoon....but otherwise I try to get my protein from solids like chicken, cheese, cottage cheese or eggs.

While you do have to be mindful of your carb in take there is also the plant based protein foods as well. Quinoa, edamame,
Chick peas, beans and of course nuts. There is more but i am still learning about those other choices. I just listed mu new favorites. Nuts just be careful to portion it out . I can't buy the big bags of almonds, I have to buy the pre-portioned stuff to keep me from grazing. Grazing is EVERYONEs problem weather you are a WLS person or not! Those sneaky bites add up quick. I know as I just lost 5 of the 10 pounds I gained via = grazing!!!!agghhh : (

I now eat so much more of a barity of foods since being banded. Some of the plant based foods I mentioned are new to me ! Lol
Keep up the good job,

I was trying to figure it out and the only thing that made sense was "variety." But, hey, maybe barity is something even better, who knows?!
