Lapband was removed two months ago, now..

Since my lapband was removed two months ago I have been constantly hungry, more so now than ever in my life. I have picked up about 20+ lbs and I don't see an end to this. When I eat a full meal 45 minutes later I want to eat again. I'm need to know what the heck is going on. Also, it seems that I may possibly lactose intolerant now. Any input would be nice. I am due to have RNY on January 14th so I can't wait for that day.

Sorry you are struggling.  I hope the bypass is the answer for you.  What to do in the mean time, I suggest you eat the right foods, even if your portions are larger then they will be after your surgery.  By right foods I mean healthy fats and carbs and lots of protein.  Some excersise would be great too.

You are lucky you can revise to another surgery. I suggest going ultra low carbs. You will lose and you will shrink your liver for your upcoming surgery. You can eat all day! Constantly and big portions too and you will be satiated. Think how impressed your surgeon will be when he/she gets in there and finds your liver in perfect condition for manipulation to get your RNY done.

Ultra low carb is the one and only way to shrink that liver and help you not gain!

Try not to kick yourself about the weight gain. January 14th will be here before you know it.

Recently I read about a study that found that people who lost significant weight had increased production of grehlin (the hormone that makes us feel hungry).http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12023994 The study involved only 8 patients, but it's giving medical researchers some clues about why it's so hard for some of us to avoid weight regain. Similar studies of patients who've had bariatric surgery are also contributing to that knowledge. It all seems to highlight the body's powerful desire to prevent or counteract weight loss. No wonder weight management is such a struggle .

I can't imagine what you are feeling . Stay the course and how about preparing for your new surgery the way you did the Band? You know, use first week to diet and detox from the caffeines, sodas etc... And the week prior to RNY to do your liquids. Get in that "newbie" state of mind! Because as hard as it has been for you, YOU are still getting a "do over"! : )
Get some counseling too, this was no doubt an easy timeframe, must have felt like you we're on a roller coaster.
Good luck and keep us posted,

I'm there with you.  I had my band out 9/4/12. I work hard not to give into the hungery.  I remember always being hungry in the past but, never as hungry as I have been since the band has been removes.  I was able to hold the hungery at bay for a couple months but, I did and 3 week cruise and got home to Christmas.  I am now up ~25 pounds and strugling now to hold it to that.  I will be getting my sleeve 1/22 and I just can't wait..

Good luck with your revision.

Good luck with your new surgery.  I am sure you will do a great job.

I agree with getting in a newbie state of mind.

I don't think the doctors know what is going on with this weight loss stuff and our hormones etc.  For that reason I think we have to get into our own heads and make it happen.

I think I mentioned before that my surgeon thinks the lap band helps with our metabolism.  I don't know and I don't think they do either.

Good luck!  You can do it!

Hi Siviog1,

I also experienced this after band removal. It's like I never feel full. I don't know if the band deadens the nerves or what, but I never felt like this before banding. I have to gauge what a normal amount of food is and try to stick to it, otherwise I'd overeat all the time. (And I often do, anyway, just because I never get the satiety feeling.)

Good luck with your revision. I wish you the best.
