anyone know of a lap- band surgeon that is under $8,000 I looked into WLS over a year ago, and it seems prices have gone up.

Just wanted to chime in with some unsolicited advice...

If you are concerned regarding the price of WLS, please consider that the Lap Band is a particularly poor choice for self payers...there is a lot of cost related to maintaining a functioning band and tremendous cost associated with repairing/replacing/removing a malfunctioning band...and unfortunately, band malfunctions are all too common.

It's your money and your decision and I won't harp, just had to get that out there because there is nothing more heartbreaking than reading the stories on this board from people whose bands are causing pain or have become dangerous but they can't afford to have removals. At the very least, if you move forward with the band as a self pay, it would be wise to maintain a healthy emergency fund for any unexpected costs that may pop up.

Best,

Lindsey

I totally agree!!! Once my 1 yr of coverage expired and my insurance changed so no more bariatric coverage I was left having to pay $225 for EVERY fill and unfill which basically left me with a useless band. Even years out you will need minor adjustments to keep the band at it's best restriction. It is also proven to be the least effective weight loss surgery. Also Allergan is being investigated by the government for it's poor performance.

I agree with hislady....and please do not be looking into the cheaper way to go. I have been paying for fills and unfills for 6 years....thing is even w insurance now Istill pay 150 every visit if there is a fill/unfill. Please look at your other options also.
