Hi!

I just joined this site on the recommendation of a friend that visited here for a while.  (She apparently hasn't been on since her surgery - her life's been busy.)

I hope to find the info I need to make an informed decision on what I want to do.

Please feel free to visit my profile to see "My Story" and read my blog(s).

Don't do lapband.  Do gastric bypass, sleeve or DS.  Research! Research! Research! Just run away and don't stop from the band.

I agree with Paula about the research part, but not about the "don't do lapband" part.  I had almost 5 wonderful years with my band, and 4 very trying months with my sleeve so far. While Paula may have valid personal reasons for warning you against the band, no one on this or any other forum or in-person support group can tell you which bariatric surgery procedure is the best for you. All weight loss surgeries carry risks and benefits. I suggest that you spend some time reading posts on the many OH forums and talk to your own surgeon to learn about life after bariatric surgery. Then  make the choice that seems to fit you. You may never feel that you have enough information to make the perfect choice. All you can do is make the best choice you can based on the information available to you at the time, but sooner or later you'll need to fish or cut bait, because obesity takes a terrible toll on all of us.

Good luck!

Jean

I would not do the band.  I had too many complications that started NINE months after my lapband placement and suffered for almost two more years.  I am so happy that the band is out and I did not abuse the band at all.

My surgeon did say it doesn't work for MOSt people that they won't do bands anymore.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

I lost a lot of weight with the LapBand, but in the end, it turned out to be a tool that would have eventually caused me permanent damage.  If I were to do it all over again, I would not do the LapBand.  I have revised to the Sleeve and I've lost what I had gained when my LapBand malfunctioned and living the life that my LapBand had promised.

Check out all the other WLS and decide for yourself.

Lost 271lbs with my LapBand in 22 months!  My Band malfunctioned and I gained almost 42lbs and then revised to the Sleeve 9/24/12!  I lost another 140 lbs with my Sleeve!  Loved the LapBand and Lovin' The Sleeve!

I see you hit a high weight of 408 lbs. Good for you for doing your research. I can't recommend strongly enough that you research the DS. It has the best stats, and best chance to get and keep you at a healthy weight. Best of luck to you.
