I am feeling scar tissue and it burns after my band replacement

My surgeon did a lot of things when he removed my old 4cc band and replaced it with a new AP band. He mentioned that the hernia was not visible when he went in, he had to dig it out and I had a lot of adhesions and apparently scar tissue from over 7 years having my old band.

Although I don't have port pain and my incisions have already healed up, the surface of my stomach feels hard and when I went to see my surgeon last week, he mentioned that it was scar tissue. When I rub my hands over my stomach I can actually feel something hard in there, very strange and when I bend over I get a burning sensation on that scar tissue, but it's not burning from the inside, it burns like I took a hot iron to the skin surface and a tingling feeling. But it goes away quickly which is good.

I am seeing now ANY type of revision surgery is totally different that a virgin surgery.

I hope this is just part of "healing" as my surgeon mention that it will get softer the longer I get out.

I start a new job today, god is good. I took leave of absence from my old job when I got sick in October with my old band and had to do all this diagnostic testing,  and they 'back filled" my job, since they said it was critical...HAHA.....you know some employers will try to discriminate against you when you get sick, but it's all good. I was not protected by FMLA since I was a contractor and there were not over 50 employees on that contract.  So I have not worked since October 15th, and I have rested up very well from my surgery.

I found a new job that pays 10K more than the old job I had and the new job covers bariatric surgery at 100 percent......so sometimes when the door closes a better one opens up....I am off to work.

Original Lap Band * 9/30/2005 * 4cc 10cm band*,  lost 130 pounds. 7 Great years!

Revision surgery to AP small lap band *11/13/2012*, due to large hiatal hernia. I am hopeful about continuing my band journey uneventful and successful. I loved what my old band did for me and I am looking forward for my new band to Keep my weight downsmiley

Congrats on the new job Naomi - God is good!

On the scar tissue (if it is outer like I am understanding) - massage it every single day and night with any oil - ( I like cocoa butter but any will do).  the motion sort of "unknots" the tissue.  Hope it is not inside that you are feeling pain.  I had a HH repair as well and didn't notice any difference.  I am not sure my doc told me about it even though he spoke to me after surgery and visited in the hospital.  I think I learned during my 1st post op appt. that I had a HH and then a repair.  it's all a blur!  all I know is that I was scared stupid and that made me very robotic.  I was doing every single little thing right so that I could heal and nothing else.

By the way my incisions have been opened - 1x Lap Band installation, 1x removal, 1x revision to sleeve plus and extra time for the port revision early out.  There is an extra incision in my belly button - that is most clever because it left hardly any scar at all.  Anyways, they are all nice and smooth.  My only gripe is that if God blesses me with a pregnancy I'd like belly shots and mine look like a fricken war zone.  My original surgeon burned me above my BB with a new laproscopic tool !  I know I am being vain.  I could just airbrush like everyone else when the time comes . . . or put foundation on my tummy enlightened.

All best hun.  No worrieeze!!!

Thanks for the tip! That is the weird thing about it, it stings on the outside on my skin and not inside, I know bizarre, but it seems to get better every day. I hope you are able to fulfill your dream of a beautiful bouncing baby!laugh.....

You know I have two identical port scars, my new scar looks a bit smaller than my old one. You know honestly, after seeing the differences in recovery in my first band placement and my second one, I think my original surgeon Dr Amir Moazzez butchered me... oh yea I am calling him out, because he knew I had some issues over 4 years ago and did nothing to help me,

I think sometimes some surgeons are only thinking about their "revision rates" especially if they are under the "center of excellence" since they can't have many 'screw ups" on record to continue to get that status...he told me he nicked my liver too....I think that was one reason why my recovery was so much harder, plus he did not fix my hiatal hernia, it just got bigger over the years, so I think if I would have had a more experienced surgeon initially I probably would not have ever needed a revision....oh well....lesson learned.

Usually a burning sensation over a surgical scar or injury is indicative of a nerve that has been damaged or cut.   Superficial or small nerves that serve the skin can be cut during surgery, and during their recovery you may feel abnormal sensations that you wouldn't expect like burning or sharp pains.  Since you have some scarring, those, too, can be pressing against a nerve, again the abnormal sensation.  This will get better, like you said, every day, as the nerve recovers or as the scarring recedes.  That's just my guess of what might be happening to you.
