Adjustable Gastric Band on 11/10/11

I had lost 70 lbs after having lap band surgery, but have gained 35 back.  I am having a very hard time losing it again.  I am eating right, and exercising.  I am taking a medication that causes weight gain, but something is wrong.  Maybe I restricted too much when I lost the weight.  I am so frustrated.

Were you taking that medication when you were first banded, or is it something new? That kind of thing is so hard to deal with. Have you talked with the doc who prescribed the med and/or your surgeon about your difficulty losing that 35 lbs? Could the prescribing doc suggest a different medication for you?

Before you panic, you need to talk to your surgeon to make sure that everything is okay with your band, and you need to talk to the doc who prescribed the medication to see if he/she has any suggestions.

Hugs! There are many bandsters that suffer the same way you have. Often the only way a bandster loses weight is if the band is too tight. I certainly understand your frustration. I have had issues with my band as well. Might be time to consider revision! Good luck!

I talked to the prescribing doc, and he won't take me off of it.  I will talk to my surgeon.

I take a medication for bipolar disorder and it caused me to gain about 50 pounds.  I had lap band surgery almost two years ago and have lost about 40 pounds, and I can't seem to loose any more.  I get very frustrated, but I know that I can't come off of my medication....

I too have bipolar and am on a med that causes weight gain.  After my surgery, my doctor had me try another med in the same family.  It was terrible.  I couldn't sleep and my mood went down the toilet.  I am back on the original med, despite the side effects.  You may just have to face the fact that the med will cause you to have to work a little bit harder than you otherwise would.  I wish you the best!
