My band was behaving very fickle.  I had a slip, from poor placement of the band.  My first surgeon was a quack.  My second surgeon fixed the slip and my band was good for a few months.  However, I fought the damn thing for 2 years after that.  One day, I could eat steak and a few bites of salad.  The next day, cream of broccolli soup wouldn't stay down.

My surgeon couldn't find any real reason for this when he revised me to the sleeve.  He found the band placed beautifully in place where he put it, two years prior.  He just said that he is seeing a lot of similar issues and revisions.  In my own case, I really feel that that my body is too sensitive to water retention and other hormonal fluctuations.  If my hands are swollen up, you better believe my stoma is swollen also, leaving the band pretty tight.

I have not had ANY weird side effects with my sleeve.  I can eat ANYTHING I want.  I can have half a sandwich, I can have sweets,. fatty meats, very lean meats.......ANYTHING.  I don't suffer from dumping, getting stuck or sick.  That being said, I have struggled fiercely to lose weight.  All of it, my own fault.  Well, most of it.

I am going through some hormonal imbalances making it even tougher, BUT , I fully own up to the fact that I don't always make the right choices with my eating.  My tiny tummy can only hold small amounts of food, but as I said earlier, I can tolerate any food, so I have kind of gone wild.  no

I felt hunger pains at first, but it turned out to be extra acid production and now it's all controlled with two prescription strength prilosec a day.

Starting next month, I am scheduled to meet with a therapist that deals with eating disorders.  I don't want my beautiful VSG to be unused.  It's a great tool, I am just not applying it as I should.

Good luck to you, Tonya!

I have thought about having a revision.  I don't know if my insurance would cover that.  Also my family would freak out at me.  I have recently gained 35 lbs.  I have a similar situation to yours.  I hope that you find the answers you are looking for.

Tonna tons of bandsters have revised. Most seem to revise to VSG. The band just does NOT work as advertised for most of us. And of those that did have it to work as advertised...........it's usually short term. :-(

I agree with you, it is definitely time to consider revision!

I am a revision, had my sleeve almost a month ago.  My band came out last April d/t a slip and an erosion.  So far so good with the sleeve.  And the recuperation was SOOO much better than either of the band surgeries.  My biggest struggle is with the eating changes, was w/o anything from April till the sleeve, and the scale was showing it.  Moving back in the right direction now though, and re learning all over again!  It's very similar to being banded, only that the restriction is consistent and immediate (No fills required) and unforgiving!  1 bite over and its a slime fest and possible upchuck.  The feeling is the same as being stuck pretty much.

I'd recommend the sleeve though.  I feel much more hopeful with this than with the band, and I did well with the band.
