Carb cycling
Anyone familiar with carb cycling? I first heard about it on lapband.talk. Basically you do 3 days high carb, 3 days low carb and one cheat day. There have been posts of success. It is used on Extreme makeover- weight loss edition and the trainer wrote a book on it. I bought his book, but won't get it till after the holidays, when it's released in paperback. Just wondering if anyone here was familiar or used it.
Thanks!
Curiosity got the best of me and I spent the last 10 minutes looking carbohydrate cycling up .
I say good for you if you have this type of control to turn the carbs off and on on command. I personally have to come down off of the high of splurging on carbs. One thing that should be noted is that it looks like you don't get to mess with simple carbs. I've seen things like sweet potatoes and whole grains for high days - I didn't even see a "cheat day - I think that is the high carb day which looks real healthy". But again this wouldn't work for me because I am like an alcoholic. I have a little bread, pasta, rice, and I literally have to wean myself off from the cravings for more, more, more like a lil'monsta'.

All Best.
I carb cycle, however, I don't eat carbs for my 3rd, 4th or 5tj meal of the day. I eat 5 small meals a day and when I am doing a carb day, I only eat carbs for breakfast and my second small meal. I always have protein witn it. Never eat a carb without a protein. I also only eat good complex carbs. Steel Cut Oats, Whole grains, Brown rice.
I found it quite easy.
I also, don't have a cheat day, I have a cheat meal. It was too hard for me to return to my eating plan after an entire day of cheating. It has kept me from hitting plateaus.
I have lost over 330 lbs with my LapBand since 2008
12/09 and 6/11, 9 skin removal procedures with Dr. Sauceda in Monterrey Mexico
Revised to the Sleeve after losing 271 lbs with the LapBand.
It wouldn't work for me, it may well do for others.
Anything which makes me think about food and meal planning all the time simply makes me start to obsess. The joy of my band for me is that I no longer think of food all the time. It suits my personality to eat like a "normal" (i.e. slim) person. If I know something is forbidden, whether a food or a whole food group, I start to want it. Wanting turns into craving!
So for me, I just stick to healthy eating most of the time. Worked for six and a half years now - a prescriptive diet wouldn't have lasted that long for me.

Thanks for the info guys. I found a video by the trainer who wrote the book I ordered. He explained 3 cycles. In each you eat 5 times a day- always a protein. In stage 1 you eat a carb with each meal and non starchy veggie is an option. In stage 2 you eat carbs for the first 2 or 3 meals, then no carbs but veggie is required and you add some fat. In the third stage you eat a carb only at breakfast- then protein, veggie and fat at all other meals. The video made it sound like you stay at each stage for weeks- basically until you stall. The book is called 7 day carb cycling, so not sure about moving from one stage to another. He also didn't talk about portions or calories or how many carbs or fat grams. I am sure it's all in the book. I am going to try it for sure. He didn't mention a cheat day- oh well lol. Of course the carbs have to be "good carbs", the complex ones like whole wheat pasta and bread, fruit, brown rice, sweet potatoes, corn.
