Thanksgiving eating
Our internet service has been down for about 5 hours, and now I'm in the middle of writing yet another brilliant newsletter article and strangely, I am NOT THINKING ABOUT FOOD. So if you'd like to skip the What Are You Eating thread today, it's OK by me. I'll just tell you that we're having a beef rib roast, Yorkshire pudding, and avocado & roasted carrot salad for our Thanksgiving feast. No pies, because I'm a lousy pie-maker and would rather eat a pan of brownies anyway (though I might be persuaded to eat brownie pie if it didn't cause dumping and someone else would make the crust).
Have a wonderful day and keep in mind that today is not your last chance to eat delicious food for the rest of your life. Try the 3-bite technique: take 3 bites of each food, and leave it at that. The food is not going to taste better the more of it you eat!

I was so thankful for this year, that I survived. This next year I'm sure will be better with significant tonnage gone. I was pretty good yesterday, and I DID LEARN a HUGE lesson. I did have jello, a tea spoon of sweet potatoes, a table spoon of mashed potatoes, with lots of gravy to make them more thixotropic or viscous. I did have a small taste of ham, that was well done/soft/cut up and that I could chewed very well. Now, lesson learned was turkey dark meat. NOT GOOD!!! It took all of a small bite, cut up small, but no matter how much I chewed it, couldn't chew it enough evidently. Had the most intense pain/hiccups I ever had in my life.. A small bite of Mashed potatoes and gravy seemed to solved that, but I had pain most of the night till I got home and layed down for the night. All in all, I may have had a card deck of food on a small plate, but I did have thanksgiving dinner with friends... I was extremely satisfied, and really this was the first semi-solid food I've had in a month. If I ever run into a situation like that again, what do others do when things you eat don't agree with you and argue.??? LOL

John,
Turkey meat (light or dark) tends to be a problem for me too, no matter how it's cooked. Very thinly sliced deli turkey is all I can manage.
Some people suggest drinking pineapple juice or hot tea or meat tenderizer dissolved in warm water when you have a stuck episode, but drinking anything just made it worse for me because the liquid had nowhere to go and came right back up. Some people claim that chewing a few papaya enzyme tablets (found at health food stores) helps, but that never worked for me either. Patience is the only thing stuck episodes ever required of me. And most importantly, prevention.

Thanks Jean, I agree prevention is going to be the key. I pushed the envelope, Doc wanted to to still be with more of a fluid/runny diet. I figured a few tastes wouldn't hurt, well it did, and I learned a lesson. I will try some deli turkey or shaved in the future, For today, its Ensure, jello, and broth. Gotta get back to where I was yesterday.
Yes, you roasted carrot salad sounds great. I wonder how that would be with turnip or rudabega? I bet it would be good.
J
I think that salad would be good made with turnip. I also like to make turnip oven fries.
