UPDATE ON MY SWOLLEN TONGUE, ETC
on 11/11/12 11:57 pm
I ended up in the emergency room on Sat am in severe pain in the chest area............totally scared. Many tests ran, morphine given, and an iv of many things. Turns out the band has either moved or is twisting ..................... After many hours I was sent home and they have already sent my surgeon the information (kaiser) and I am waiting for his call. ( I have an appt for the 30th but they want him to see me asap) Today is a holiday so my call might be tomorrow.
Thank God for the morphine, and that I am not having a heart attack!! A lot of blood work done and all ok, so I will keep you all posted.
The ER said that sometimes bariatric people tend to wait too long before getting to the dr with problems, so if you think you have a problem, please be kind to yourself and call your dr!!

Band removed and feeling alive with energy!

Thanks. At first they thought my swollen tongue was something else. After all the tests etc, and the horrible pain I was in they believe the band has slipped and that the night time acid reflux is creating my tongue to crack and swell.
I am not a band basher as I did lose 50lbs with it and never gained it back, but I think it is time to get it out of me as at 59 years old I can't keep going in for fills and unfills. They are working on getting me in asap, my dr is in surgery untill 2 today.
Thanks for wishing me luck!

Band removed and feeling alive with energy!
It isn't band bashing to share your issues and needing to have it removed. Many of us have walked in your shoes. It is just not a good idea to keep trying to keep hanging on when your body is saying time to go. I kept trying to hang on another 18 months after the PCP wanted it out. All I got for my effort was more pain and scar tissue.
I'm 55 and I felt I didn't want to deal with the fill, un-fill any more . Just get it out and get on with life.
Good Luck with your journey.
I'm glad you've figured out what's been going on but wi**** didn't have to be so painful and scary for you. Please keep us posted.
