Mine to Kevin!  The band is the gift that keeps giving...$$$ to the surgeon

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

My surgeon also "thought" I'd do wonderfully. I lost 20 of the 150 lbs I need to lose. Not so well done and I followed all the rules to the letter, it just never worked for me. All surgeons think we will do well because that's another $$ in their bank account. Even the ones who aren't in it for the money believe what the manufacturers tell them and we have learned that Allergan is full of lies and now they want to sell off the lap band part of their company because it isn't making money, what does that tell you?

I certainly have to agree with Jean M. There is no wls without risk of serious complications and all have lifelong implications. This is serious stuff you are planning to do to your body. Don't do it in a hurry nor without all the information you can garner. You owe it to yourself. If and only if you feel, after all of this, you must have a tool then do it with a joyful heart and yes, you will do fine.

The band was the best "tool" I ever invested in.

I need the band for portion control.

I can now eat anything moderation except rice or apple skin... and no carbonated bevarages. The band did change my life.

Well, if you are even thinking this might not be right for you delay the surgery! I was so desperate to lose weight that although I was having second thoughts I had the surgery anyway. I am 17 months out. Most would say that I am a success. I lost 80 pounds by my 1 year mark. Throughout the last 17 months I have lost and kept off the 80 pounds and overall feel better. That being said, I have had so many painful days of becoming to tight for no reason. I didn't tell my family about the surgery but then had to explain to my 13 year old daughter about it because she thought I was bulimic. My body is just sensitive to the band and some days I can eat what I am suppose to and other days I can't swallow soup. At this point O think I will be asking for the band to be removed when summer comes again if I can make it that long. I can't miss any work and since medically I don't need it out it can wait. Am I sorry I had the surgery hmmm not exactly. Am I happy I had it not exactly. I am thankful that I lost 80 pounds but not really sure the pain I have suffered and the worry on my husbands face was worth it. At this point I an doing ok with 3 cc in my band but I am not losing any weight. My feelings over the band have changed like the tide over the past 17 months because I so desperately wanted it to work.

Yes you have lost weight... but also on liquids...not sustainable! We didn't get obese because we could follow proper diet alone! I am 1 1/2 years out and just had a replacement d/t a slip. I would do it all again in second!! M I have lost 60 lbs adn have 30 to go. I am active now and running 5K races... something I NEVER would have done before. Certainly don't rush if you are unsure... but don't let the pre-op diet fool you either!! LapBand is the best tool for me!!
