Hi Jean,

I remember you from when I had my surgery back in June, 2008. I read your profile and saw that you had a revision this summer. Do you mind me asking what you had done and how it has been so far.

I had the lapband placed in June, 2008 and lost 50lbs. I have since gained 40lbs back. So frustrated.  I just need to vent. My insurance will pay nothing on weight loss surgery and we were self pay. I do not have the money to get another surgery.

Any ideas?

Sincerely, René

Hi, Rene. I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling, but it's hard to make any suggestions without knowing the details about your eating and exercise and fill/restriction level.

I lost my band in April. It's a long story, but the short short version is that I had a bad esophageal dilation that turned out to be related to damage from 20+ years of silent reflux, and my surgeon strongly recommended removing my band. We had planned to revise to the sleeve, but my surgeon was unable to do the revision because of a stricture in the lower third of my esophagus. I had the stricture dilated in May and finally had the sleeve surgery in August.

I've been having a hard time adjusting to my sleeve. It has caused havoc with my blood sugar, so I'm ferociously hungry only an hour or so after I eat. I have to eat continuously throughout the day in order to keep my blood sugar fairly level, which is annoying when I'm at home and a big problem when I'm at work (where I'm not allowed to eat or drink except during my one 15-minute break). I've become anemic (apparently due to a gastric bleed, and treated with an iron supplement and have developed, a stomach polyp and duodenitis (both probably due to inflammation & trauma from my sleeve surgery).

The good news is that I've lost 22 of the 30 lbs I regained from losing my band.

Bottom line: I'm not thrilled with my sleeve. All I can do is keep on working on ways to live with it and hope that it gets easier as time goes on.

Hi Jean: Have you ever "talked" with Multimom? she is an RNYer who has had a lot of reactive hypoglycemia testing. Here is a link where she details some of the info:  http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/4544834/My-hypoglycemi a-visit-to-Joslin-long/

Judy,

Thank you so much for sending me Multimom's way. Her post was very interesting and I've sent her a PM to request the additional info she mentioned in her thread.
