What are you eating today (Tuesday) or yesterday?
I asked the gastro doc about PPI's causing anemia. He said that it was a theory that hasn't been substantiated yet.
But...it does seem like the lack of acid (whatever the cause) has a role in anemia. The other day I read an article about a study that found that 43% of sleeve patients studied had iron, folic acid, and/or B12 deficiencies. The authors theorize that removing so much of the stomach reduces the production of hydrochloric acid that's needed for micronutrient absorption. The other factor they identified was the rapid movement of food through the stomach and into the intestines.
If the EGD shows no ulcer(s) or any other reason for my GI bleed, we may have to do a colonoscopy (I really, really hate the prep for that). And if that shows nothing useful, I'll bring up the PPI thing again.
