ALONE and FAILING

I was banded in Jan of 2010 and lost about 65 lbs I was on my way it was slow and way harder than I ever imaged when I started but I had wonderful support. My friends most of them I had met at RNY most the sleeve but we all had goals and supported each other.....

Then I moved to WI to be close to family, and I have gained back about 20 lbs rather than continuing to lose. I feel stresseed and eat food I shouldnt because stress was always a trigger. Also I have a boyfriend that loves food, and friends that love food, and a family that loves food up here. I mean I have never seen so much cheese and frozen custard. I went  to Florida two weeks ago and when I was there I lost 5 lbs hung out with my friend with a vsg and we did what we used to do SHARE and only order a starter. It made me want to get back on track but I need support I know if I had someone here I could really be accountable too..

I am hoping to find something here at OH that could possibly help me move in the right direction. I still want my goals to happen and I need to get back there.

that's a tough one when everyone around you is eating all the time. it's not unlike a smoker trying to quit when everyone they're friends with, family, or love is lighting up everytime they turn around. have you tried finding local support groups through any baratric offices in your area, to network and find a new group of people to share the experiences with?

in the end, the only person you can be held accountable to is yourself. at least that's what i feel. it might help to start keeping a food record of what you're eating. don't beat yourself up if you have a bad day, just have a good day the next day after that and take it one day at a time. it's cheesey and sounds trite, but it's slow and steady. as for what is stressing you, find out is your trigger and instead of grabbing food when you feel the urge, do something positive and productive in its place. i exercise when i get stressed. it keeps me from reaching for food. i also use exercise to combat boredom, again so i don't start grazing.

good luck.

Yep, a foodie family can be ruff!  Sounds like moving home triggered what got you to your bad place to start with.  You may need to find yourself a good support group and theripst!

(((Hugs))) it's hard to be around people eating anything they want, but here's the deal:  you made a decision to improve your life and health.  You're worth keeping that commitment.  Be strong, be brave and stand firm,  you can do it and you're worth it,.

Since moving have you found a local bariatric surgeon to do your fills and aftercare? If not, that's the first thing I'd do. As you've discovered, it is extremely hard to travel the WLS road alone. Also, I would find a local WLS support group, attend the meetings, and look for a new friend there who can help you and/or set a good example.

As for the stress, I highly recommend exercise, and if it's hard for you to tackle that alone, look for a workout buddy when you attend support group meetings.

Cheese and ice cream are a real downfall for me too.  They are traditional comfort foods, and so easy to eat.

I am trying hard to behave as if I was a brand new pre-op, back when I was afraid to eat too much, and excited about the potential of losing.  I lost that enthusiasm and commitment somewhere along the way, but I believe I can get it back, and so can you.
