50 pounds to lose advice really needed

I had a baby over a year ago and totally fell off track. I became pregnant three months after surgery. It has taken me sometime to get mentally ready but Iam finally motivated to lose weight. I have been watching what I eat, and I exercise five times a week for thirty minutes. My question is how long can it take to lose 50 pounds with the band?

i typically lose 8-10 pounds a month (which is average from what my sugeon tells me which is an average of 1-2 pounds a week). as to how quickly, it depends on your body make up and metabolism, what you're eating, what you''re doing for exercise. any of these thing will factor into how quickly you lose the weight. i tend to not look at lapband as a quick way to lose weight, but rather a steady pace. it's a slow steady walk as opposed to a sprint.

edit: I should also add, that with my exercising, I'm at the gym about 10-12 hours a week, granted I'm mostly swimming laps and doing water exercises.

Ok thanks I do walking, elliptical, and the treadmill all for 30 mins. Yes the band is a slow process for weight loss. That is why I chose it I just have to remember that. I get caught up when I look at my pictures prior to getting pregnant, and feel desperate to be that person again lol. Thanks for the advice.

sounds familiar.    i had to stop looking at the before and after photos section. while they're meant to be inspirational, i took it differently. i was really getting down on myself for not losing the weight faster (comparing RNY to banding) and considering a revision for the wrong reasons. as for elipticals, and treadmill, those are great. i wish i could. my knees hate me when i try it. so far the only land exercise i've been able to tolerate are recumbent bicycles.

try to look forward, not backward. you have a beautiful baby (i'm jealous btw, i'm still trying to get pregnant hehe ) and move beyond where you've been. take it one day at a time. it's all you can do.

Interesting you say water exercise. One of the trainers at the gym I go to want to teach me how to swim, and get involved in the water classes. I'm kind of scared due to never swimming in my life

i love the water, so i'm a bit biased when it comes to water exercise compared to land exercise. :) it's a place where i don't feel winded and uncomfortable in my own skin because the water helps to offset that. it's a mental exercise as well as a physical exericse of going back and forth like a fish.

Congrats on you baby Kia. It took me a while to see any progress because I literally got on the scale every day after my surgery. I'm averaging 8-10 pounds a month as well. I got to the gym three times a week with focus on my legs and arms. I also do cardio twice a week. I would love to do water exercises but I can't swim either.

How fast you lose depends on so many things - your starting weight, your exercise/activity level, your caloric intake, your food choices, your general health...and the weight loss goes faster at the start, when you're heavier, and slower at the end, when you're lighter and your body needs less fuel. I lost an anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 lbs/week, so to lose 50 lbs that translates to about 20-30 weeks.

Congrats on the baby!
