The surgeons in the link all do lap band and revision.  A surgeon who does Lapband/revision will be the most qualified to handle the hernia repair in the most conservative way possible and have your best interests in mind.

6-7-13 band removed. No revision. Facebook  Failed Lapbands and Realize Bands group and WLS-Support for Regain and Revision Group

Thanks Step.

Original Lap Band * 9/30/2005 * 4cc 10cm band*,  lost 130 pounds. 7 Great years!

Revision surgery to AP small lap band *11/13/2012*, due to large hiatal hernia. I am hopeful about continuing my band journey uneventful and successful. I loved what my old band did for me and I am looking forward for my new band to Keep my weight downsmiley

 Naomi:

I emailed my surgeon last night and asked him two questions:

1. Can a hiatal hernia be repaired without removing the band and
2. Can a band be "unbuckled" during surgery.

His answers:

1. Yes.
2. Maybe

I ADORE my surgeon, but I doubt you'll want to come all the way to CT to see him.

Bette, thanks so much for getting the opinion from your surgeon. My fear is the second answer on the "maybe". This is where it gets fuzzy, will they be able to fix my hernia without removing my band, based on others who've had successful hernia repairs WITHOUT removing the band, the surgeon was able to unbuckle and open the band in order to repair the hernia, and I am not so sure if my 4cc band can be unbuckled the same way like the NEW AP bands.

My surgeon also mentioned that IT IS DOABLE, but they can't guarantee that it will be successful without damaging the band.

From what I was told when I had my HH surgery, the band and the HH are two unrelated things. The HH should have able to be repaired without having to do ANYTHING related to the band at all, unless there is so horrific damage in there. Same thing with the unbuckling - yes, it can BE done, as long as physiological damage doesn't prevent it.

But long story short, I guess you won't really know that your options are until they get in there and have a look-see.

Naomi I wouldn't make dumping the deciding factor about choosing the sleeve if I were you.  Only ~30% of rny folks dump, it's got to be far less with the sleeve.  I was revised to the sleeve 2 months ago and I can honestly say that I agree with all of the people that I have heard say that the sleeve is what I had hoped the band would be.  It's so nice to just feel normal again.  I don't dump.  I eat normal food and get full on a very small amount.  Weight loss is much faster for me than it was with the band and I have not vomited since surgery.  There is a WLS that is much better than the band, but if you close your mind you won't see it.

I am happy to hear you are doing well with your Sleeve....I am wondering if those that do tend to have dumping syndrome or suffer more are diabetics? Are you a diabetic? I am curious...I've never had a blood sugar problem.
