Tracy, sorry about your time with the AP band, even my surgeon mentioned that they are not better than the older bands. My surgeons are saying that it would be tough to repair the hernia with the band intact, I will meet with another specialist tomorrow to get a second opionion, but the OLDER 4CC bands CAN'T BE UNBUCKLED....

I am not sure about the older VG bands, they were different than the 4cc/10cm bands. The VG bands were also BIGGER than the 4cc bands, I remember the VG bands came out later to accomodate those with larger anatomies/stomachs, so they may can be unbuckled.

Original Lap Band * 9/30/2005 * 4cc 10cm band*,  lost 130 pounds. 7 Great years!

Revision surgery to AP small lap band *11/13/2012*, due to large hiatal hernia. I am hopeful about continuing my band journey uneventful and successful. I loved what my old band did for me and I am looking forward for my new band to Keep my weight downsmiley

They don't need to be unbuckled to do the repair.  The VG was just longer than the 4cc but worked exactly the same and could not be unbuckled either.  My band surgeon has done over 4000 bands and he doesn't remove the bands or even unbuckle them to fix hernias. I think a second opinion is a good idea.

Whatever happens - whatever way the chips fall - best of luck to you, Naomi. Yes, you and Suzie had a god run. And who knows - maybe there will be a magic bullet coming some time in the future . . ..

Thank you Bette, we've known each other here for years, we've had ups and downs, fights and so forth but in the end, I think we really wish each other well. I am not optimistic regarding the future of my band, my surgeon was straight and honest with me and told me he does not recommend keeping the band, if it's going to hurt me more than it helps, it's time for it to go.

I still love my band and all its done for me over the years, I've had at least 6 good years with it, so I have no regrets. The only thing I want to do now is heal and get this hernia repaired even if it means losing my band.

I've always been honest and don't sugar coat my journey or hold back any type of side effects, many people hide their issues, I think it's a disserve to be less than truthful about ANY weight loss surgery whether it be band, sleeve, or rny, this way people can make an educated decision on which surgery type is best for them.

P.S. this is why I really don't want anything permanent, if some "magic bullet" comes along then I can just jump on that, but until then....it will have to be me, my treadmill and weigh****chers...lol
