A question about, "Dumping..."
I have heard a lot about, "Dumping."
I have actually talked with a few people who said that they can actually tell when this happens with them. They seem to feel sick (nausea and such) when it happens. Can any of you tell when/if this happens to you?
Just curious...

It's a common thing with gastric bypass, but not with the band. True Dumping Syndrome happens most often in RnY patients. Duodenal Switch patients keep their pyloric valves, which regulates the emptying of the stomach into the small intestine. But with the lapband, there's really no reason why the stomach would empty rapidly.
People do get sick and nauseated with bands, though, for sure.

I also think what some of them are having is reactive hypoglycemia rather than dumping also some people get lactose intolerence and confuse that with dumping. In general it is as Nicci explained altho a very few sleevers have reported dumping and they think it may be because the stomach is smaller so thing**** the intestines sooner than usual but RNYers are the ones *****ally have a rough time with it.
I never had dumping syndrome as a bandster, but since my sleeve surgery I've found that I dump when I eat anything with more than 5 or so grams of sugar in it, and also when I eat too fast. It's very unpleasant but it can be prevented with careful eating.

Lap banders don't have dumping syndrome, this is something that can happen to RNY and Sleevers. I've had my band over 7 years and never felt nausea.
Original Lap Band * 9/30/2005 * 4cc 10cm band*, lost 130 pounds. 7 Great years!
Revision surgery to AP small lap band *11/13/2012*, due to large hiatal hernia. I am hopeful about continuing my band journey uneventful and successful. I loved what my old band did for me and I am looking forward for my new band to Keep my weight down
