I had my band over bypass on March 1st of this year.  Since then I have had to go back to liquids many times due to being too tight (either from a fill or getting something stuck).  For the last 6 weeks, I was having issues eating and then I couldn't even get liquids in.  I went on 10/5 and had a partial unfill.  This didn't work, last Tuesday after many weeks of no food or liquids I went to the hospital.  I was completely blocked, dehydrated and malnourished (imagine that).  After a fluoroscopy, the bariatric doctor said I had a minor slip, however, he had never seen a band over bypass (I have since sent my results to my original surgeon as he stated it is almost impossible to slip a band over bypass since the pouch is so small).  Anyway, I had a complete unfill and had to do 5 days of clear liquids after getting out of the hospital after 3 days in which I wasn't allowed anything by mouth the whole time.  I have now moved on to full liquids which I will be on for 15 days and then 10 days of mushies.  The problem is.....I am actually hungry.  I haven't felt hungry in quite some time and this feels like torture.  I am below my goal weight and just would like to eat again normally.  Has anyone out there had a complete unfill for swelling or a slip and what kind of diet were you on after?

I have had a complete unfill due to unexplained sudden tightness but I didn't have a slip.  I did 24 hours of liquids and then soft foods for 3 days.  Just make sure you stick to your food program and don't go testing the waters.  It's a slippery slope!

I hope your band goes back in to place and are able to get healthy soon!

Best~

As Lisa said, follow the food program they gave you. Treat it gently for a bit and get used to each other again. Start with very small fills and see how you do. You may not be able to tolerate as much fill as you had previously.

Good luck

Girl....what the hell is happening to you.  I am so sorry you've gonethrough this. WHo is the doctor you are seeing for your follow-up care?  Are they any good? I know you surgery was in Mexico and your dtr is in DE. but, maybe go see the docs at University of PA.  They are a good bunch and highly skilled, it worries me that you've had so many problems.

Thank you all for your support and wisdom!

Heather- I was seeing a doctor in Dover, DE however, he just didn't know how to deal with a band over bypass.  I went to Pennsylvania Hospital last week as the bariatric doctors there are supposed to be great, but again, have never seen a band over bypass.  I have since contacted several BOB docs on the east coast and am willing to drive several hours after all this, but as soon as I tell them I had my BOB in Mexico and my insurance didn't cover it, they won't see me.  My insurance covers any issues with me and is even paying for my fills and unfills (there have been many).  I'm hoping that now all my issues will be taken care of and I will keep my band either unfilled or with a little fill and hope that I do not gain weight.  I am feeling so much better now but the true test will be next month when I can eat solid food.  I could fly back to Mexico and see the doctor there, he and his office have been great through all this and prevented me from losing my band (thank goodness).  Anyway, I will figure out something and hope that a BOB surgeon will take pity and take me as a patient.  Hope you are well, read your last blog and it sounds like you are doing great!!  I'm so happy for you.

Sorry your going thru this.  I didn't slip but had total unfill for the other issues I had with the band.  I had to go on shakes for at least 48 hours after every fill.  When I was unfilled they wanted me to do at least a week.  I know for a slip most here had to do much long.  You need to follow your doctors advise.  I don't know why the would say a band can't slip over a by pass.

I hope everything works well for you.
