Starting the couch-to-5k today!
The name is a bit of a misnomar. At the end you just run 30 mins straight. A 5k being 3.11 miles, you'd have to maintain a 6.22 mph clip for that entire 30 minutes. Eventually! Maybe by my 35 birthday in March 2013. But I'm hoping at the end of my 9 weeks to be able to do a 3.85 k (which is about 4.8 MPH). That would be a heck of an accomplishment.
OK, geeky running numbers aside, I'm actually pretty stoked. I hope this facilitates good weight loss, which it should. I finally have a house with a basement and a treadmill in it. I got an arm band for my smartphone, ear buds, and the C25K app for my android. I got good shoes and a fridge full of water near the treadmill. I'm ready to go!
Now just as long as Ross cooperates, and makes those 5:30 am wake up calls do-able for daddy!
Wish me luck (and join if you want).
Brock

Good luck.
I completed the program in June and ran a 5k race in 34:35. The last few runs on the program I ran 3.1 miles, not the 30 minutes in the program so I was sure I could run the entire race.
I highly suggest you sign up for a race now that will happen around the time you will finish the program, it's the only reason I kept up with the program.
Unfortunately, I didn't continue running after the race and I wanted to get back at it and could only run 1/2 mile without stopping last week. I guess it's one of those things that you lose it, if you don't use it!

I did the c25k in April/May 2011 also. signed up for a race in June 2011. Unfortunately, the night before, I WRECKED my back moving a piano. I pushed through it though. I'm sure I was the last place finisher.
The weather here is NOT condusive to putdoor running except for April 15-October 15 every year. But I'm hoping to sign up for a race about May 1. It will give me 4 months after the program to build up my tolerence and make running 5k a breeze. Plus my wife is due with #2 May 10, so I'm sure my exercise days will come to a halt for awhile then).

Good luck! I did the C25K last year and a couple weeks ago ran a half marathon, you can do it!
Also...if you decide to venture outside, I recommend the app Strava, it's awesome! Breaks down each mile for you by time and elevation, very cool.
Oh p.s. I don't run close to that pace and probably never will, I'm ok with it! :)

I started with the C25K right after surgery, it's a great program! I now do 5 to 6 miles at a clip. My pace went from super slow to about a 5.5 now, but my goals are distance related not speed related, any improvement in my pace is just a perk at this point LOL My goal is to be doing a solid 13 miles once a week on my long runs by the end of December, and then a full 26 by this coming June.
I only run outside though, the dreadmill kills me, I get so bored LOL
