13987687809606th request, please stop accusing us of bashing band.
We are just being honest and sharing experience in assisting newbies decide if they want the band or not. We certainly do not wish possible complications on our enemies as well.
If I had listened and thought more thoroughly about band, i wouldn't have gotten the band in the first place. It caused ALOT of problems for me. It also has nearly killed a few people, and some had to have their band removed in emergency surgery.
We are not trying to scare people, and while it is unfortunate that band failure and complications are becoming common nowadays, so I am asking you all that are accusing us of bashing bands, to please stop.
Off my soapbox.

I should add that I am frigging happy the band is gone.
I am now able to eat normally without vomitting several times a day, and worrying about other co workers thinking I have bulimia. My diabetes had returned because I ate around the band to keep food down. If I have a bite of chicken or dense protein, it comes right back up.
I have not thrown up ever since my revision.

Cheryl,
I respect your opinion and your experience.
However, there are people on this board who have made it their life's work to do nothing BUT bash the band.
The opinion and experience of all bandsters is valuable, but you cannot deny that some people offer nothing but negativity to this board.

Cheryl, Kath is right. There are some people that are/were here for the only pupose of bashing the band. Giving facts is important, but the constant bashing without facts and always assuming everyone with a band will eventually fail, gets very old.
Lost 271lbs with my LapBand in 22 months! My Band malfunctioned and I gained almost 42lbs and then revised to the Sleeve 9/24/12! I lost another 140 lbs with my Sleeve! Loved the LapBand and Lovin' The Sleeve!
I was called stupid when I told my complications. I was attacked by a long term banded. I was revised to a DS in January and my insides were a mess. The dr spent six hours just repairing the damage the band did to me. I had my band for almost 11 years. My band had grown into my liver. It had even made its own vascular system. My stomach above my band had grown over and attached itself to the lower part of my stomach. I had massive scare tissue. Dr said i was one of his most difficult revisions. All this with never having anything in my band. I never tolerated fills. PB'ed every day. Because I was bashed so badly I didn't post anything about my revision and the problems I had. My DS is wonderful. I have lost over 100 lbs and my gerds is almost non existent. I never throw up any more. I am only 15 lbs away from goal. So the bashing actually goes both ways. At least when someone bashes the band they are bashing an object not an actual person with feeling that is only trying to save someone else the pain they have gone thru.
I'm not denying the facts of your band problems. I just want to mention that gastric band design and surgical placement techniques have changed a great deal since the band was first approved for use in the USA (in 2001, so maybe you were one of the first US patients to receive one?). The purpose of those changes was to improve patient outcomes and reduce complications. Of course there are still unhappy outcomes and complications.
