I am 3 months post surgery and have been doing great losing fairly well and excercising regularly. Suddenly a couple days ago I had bent over to tie my shoe and felt the port hit my belt didnt think anything of it but shortly after that I started to have pain near the port and it feels deep inside the muscle and has just been aching the last few days doesnt hurt all the time but just occasionally when I move or even if I havent. Has anyone else experienced this? I should probably add that I do stomach crunches a couple times a week during my excericises.

I have port pain two years out with any kind of ab exercises. My PA says it is because my port is stitched solidly to the muscle. Which keeps it from flipping.

That happened to me occasionally, mostly in the first few months after my band surgery. The port is stitched into the fascia (tough outer sheath) of the abdominal muscles, and your abdominal muscles get involved in all kinds of movements you probably don't even notice (sitting down, getting up, reaching, etc.) in addition to abdominal exercises. Once the port site is irritated like that, it can take a few days to calm down, so I'd lay off the crunches until the discomfort is gone.

However...if the port site becomes red, swollen, or hot to touch (signs of infection), call your surgeon ASAP.

Thank you, for your reassurances. Pain is better today but I will lay off the crunches for awhile and do some other excercises.
