Ugh, reflux at night

Lately, I've been awakened choking on acid at night.  I'm taking omeprazole before bed and papaya enzyme after meals to aid digestion.  Early this morning, I was dreaming I couldn't catch my breath and sat up in bed choking on acid again.  For the last few days I've been having issues with food, so taking it real easy.  I have no fluid in my band.  This is scaring me, since it has come on so suddenly and is a new symptom of the reflux I've been dealing with for the last year.

Time to call your dr.   This is not healthy and choking can really harm you.

Perhaps you need a slight unfill.   Make sure you are not laying down for about 2 hours before you go to sleep, and make a wedge to keep your head and neck area raised.  You can also put a brick under your bedframe legs at the top of your bed so you are lifted.

Again, call your dr so you do not harm yourself!!

Sorry you are having problems, but you need to see your doctor as soon as possible. I wish you the best of luck and hope you are better soon.

Please see my post I just submitted. You need to talk with your doctor ASAP. I am in the same boat as you.

Thanks, saw your post and I feel like my band will need to come out at some point.  I do have some motility issues too.  They first noticed it when Dx my gallbladder problems last year, and again at the follow up following my unfill.  I'm hoping to wait until after the first of the year as our calendar is very full until then.  Will call the doc and set up another Esophogram to see what's going on now.

Hon you really must deal with this as soon as possible, choking on the acid can cause aspiration pneumonia or even death from choking in your sleep. I can understand wanting to keep the band but you are going to have to make a choice here very soon. It isn't healthy to keep living this way and can only cause more problems. If you have been empty this long and are still having issues there aren't really any options left but to get it removed. I wish no one had to go thru this but it seems to be more common all the time. It breaks my heart when you folks who love your bands end up with problems but you have to take good care of yourself and get it removed sooner rather than later. Prayers are up for you to get some relief.

hislady makes a solid / true / valid point - was diagnosed twice with aspiration pneumonia.
i was such a healthy lapband patient - SO healthy, that i had zero comorbids walking in & was self pay.

when i revised, i had 2 lasting cormorbids including a fibro diagnosis - i'll reserve judgment to those that want to really know "permanent damage".

i was self pay twice - so when the nut ($$$$) is financial - i'll always advise for a different procedure, if insurance coverage can't happen.

the lapband can be very expensive & that's not discussed that much.

I have to agree with Hislady. This is not something to mess around with. I can understand the schedule thing but you cannot continue like this. The new symptoms are dangerous. Even if you had to have a removal of your band and let the rest wait, you at least need to talk to your surgeon. I offer my hugs and prayers. Let us know, please. I sure understand how you feel.
