Do you allow yourself treats?

Do you allow yourself a treat day or meal or just a treat once a week or once a month? If so, what is your treat and do you find that it helps keep you on track? Or do you avoid food treats altogether?

I have learned from many diets if I dont treat myself to the foods I do love then I will overeat on them and to be honest I dont want to go the rest of my life without eating the foods I do love.

I didnt get the band to live like that and I refuse to live like that , that is just me though .

My downfall food is pizza I try to  have it just once a month but sometimes it can be two times a month especially since its football season

I have determined that I maintain my weight loss by eating healthy 95% of the time and by enjoying something that dances on my tongue everyday ( ex. Hershey bar with almonds) that I get out and walk. I have finally learned after all of those years of labeling food as good or bad that nothing is off limits when you move your body.....Who Knew....LOL

I eat whatever I want depending on how my band is doing.  Some days are better than others and even with no fill, things that should work out, sometimes don't.  Some of the foods I eat that are considered "off limits" by some; Safeway light vanilla ice cream, 110 calories and half the fat, a small square of apple crisp,  a glass of wine and my go to snack on the road(we're retired and travel a lot) is half a Payday bar.

I'm still losing slowly and salad, berries, fibrous foods just aren't an option. I hope to keep my band, but only time will tell.

One gift being banded has given me is relief from the guilt related to food choices.  I feel like I eat more like a "normal" person and actually enjoy food more now, except when the stomach is on hyper alert and causes problems.  I recognize that my issues with food weren't a conscious choice, but deeply rooted in my subconscious as a result of horrific childhood abuse, deprivation and neglect.  I might have gotten to this place with another WLS choice, but I'm grateful to be in a good place emotionally at almost 63 yrs old.

As I have said many times, I have a list of foods that I must don't eat anymore, period. (cookies, cake, baked sweets, ice cream).

But I do have plenty of treats.

I eat (too many) chips and Cheetos and I eat cheese and nuts as treats.

Mot every day, but a few times a week, if they fit into my calorie plan ..which really means, if I have worked out at least an hour.

I have never, at any time since being banded denied myself anything! For me, deprivation leads to craving leads to binging. I just eat high cal things in moderation.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I had a primary care doc that told me once that life is to be lived not endured and to deny any goodies would be just enduring. Sunday is my treat day simply because that is potluck day at church and who can walk away from all those yummies. On Sundays when it isn't potluck I indulge in some ice cream.

I do allow myself little healthy treats like apples and peanut butter.  But once a month I do a guilt free splurge where I can have a fattening treat.  It gives me something to look forward to when I am tempted to cheat I say "well this Saturday is my cheat day so just wait a couple more days!!!"  and I am able say NO and stay on track.  It works for me.

For a long time, I was scared to eat even one treat because I was afraid that it would lead to another and another and pretty soon I'd be bingeing. But if someone told me I could never eat a certain food again, I'd be thinking about that food nonstop, and in my last 2 years as a bandster, I found myself able to take or leave the treats without overindulging.

Right now I'm having blood glucose swings and dumping symptoms even when eating "healthy" food, so I'm too afraid to try eating a treat. At times I'm afraid to eat anything at all.
