Failed Lap Band Help
Hi, a woman was introduced to me while I was getting my nails done today. She just had her lap band removed after 11 months, and 30 pounds from goal. She is not getting much support from her doctor and her insurance company will not pay for revision. In fact, it was tough getting them to pay for the removal of the lapband. In any case, I want to try to support her. I know there is a "failed lap band forum" that has been mentioned a number of times here. Can someone give me the info on where it is, so I can pass it on to her. I have mentioned Obesity Help as a good resource for support to her, and she will be e-mailing me so we can stay in touch, and I want to provide as much help as I can to her.
Thanks for any information.

I got my insurance to remove the band after proving ongoing medical problems. I have yet to get them to approve a second as they went to a once in a lifetime WLS while I was trying.

I had no problem getting my insurance to agree for the removal but the revision was another story. Three times, they tell me it will be approved, three times it was denied. One excuse after another, with the final one being to resubmit three to six months after removal. Given that they had already denied it on the basis of non-qualifying BMI, I get the message: unless I gained A LOT of weight, it was going to be no way, Jose.
I finally looked at the dollars and sense of the situation, including what my out of pocket would have been had my insurance agreed to the revision. My surgeon's business manager was offered me a discounted price for what my out of pocket would have been anyway.

Thanks to all for the help. I will give her this information and suggest she join Obesity Help and sign up for both the lap band and failed lap band forums. I think the more information she has, the better. She should also push on the insurance issue, since it was an emergency to have the band removed with problems very similar to those others have posted about.
