Asking for input...

I have a question...

What causes the feeling that everything is stuck in your throat when all you have is a sip of water? I am still on the liquid diet and have been pretty miserable occasionally. I am not ating (soup) or drinking much because of this. I just called my surgeon's office. anyone know anything about this? Do you know of any questions I should have for the dr?
Thanks for any input I can get.

sometimes water seems to go down a bit hard with WLS - try to flavor it with something like Crystal light, Wylers etc.  Also adding a splash of apple or something might help.  But yes, contact your doctor.  I've heard something about cucumber juice as well - I couldn't tell you how to splash that in maybe slice & drop in water????

All best,
L

Thank you.
I have ab appt with my dr.'s office in the morning.  They will check to see if they need to take out some fluid, or the line may possibly have air in it.  My first fill is supposed to be 6 weeks after surgery so the only fluid in the band is the primer liquid.  Bummer that I have to go in and do this, but it will be great to be able to sip and such again.

Maybe it's the result of esophageal dysmotility?

Did you just have surgery in August? If so, then you're still in a healing stage and it could just still be your system adjusted. It could be that you're trying to drink before what you had previously has "moved on" in your system.

But you STILL need to get those fluids in. Have you tried drinking warm fluids instead of cold? That can really help.

Maria, I looked that up and I personally hope that is not what I am experencing!  Thank you for giving me that info.  It gives me a questoin for the dr. tomorrow.

Bette, I have tried the warm liquids.  Grannymedic also mentioned that to me in another post.  I tried it and it did feel better for a while, but now that, "Stuck," feeling is back.   I finally took the other advice she gave me, which was to make sure that I called my doc and made sure that he knows what I am feeling.  I now have an appt in the morning to have this checked out.  I really do not want to have any problems that would necessitate having the band taken out.  I am only 12 days out from my surgery.  Hopfully, I just need to have a little fluid taken out.

Thank you all for your suggestions.  It really does help to talk to someone who has/is there.

Yep, they may have to take fluid out.  The primer is usually just to fill the line from the port to the band according to our center.  Your's might put in more.  Swelling from the surgery can close you way down too.
Another possiblity is the surgeon inplanted to small of a band for your make up.  When I got mine 3.5 years ago they where putting in a 10cc and a 14cc based on what they found when they got in there.  I don't know what they are doing know.  So if someone needed a 14 and they put in a 10, even empty it may be too tight.  Like I said my data is 3+ years old.

Good luck and hope you get relief soon.  Keep sipping warm decafe tea, coffee what every in the mean time.

Lots of things can cause this inability to swallow even water with the band-sinus swelling, normal early morning digestion, and so on. Sounds like you may be a bit too tight, so I hope the doctor can help you with that.  Flavored waters did seem to work better for me than plain water. Once you can eat solids, it sometimes helps to have something on the crunchy side which can help clear any mucous from the stoma.

Good luck, keep s posted.
