Port has flipped again- should I move it or remove it?
I went in for a slight unfill today because my band is too tight. They were not able to get the needle in because my port has flipped over again. Last September I had surgery to fix the port after its first flipped. The surgeon said he put it in deep and it would not move again. One year later I am in the sam position and the port-located in my right addomen is one again flipped.
The surgeon wants to reposition it again moving it closer to my ribs. He said this will guarentee it does not move, but I will most likely feel it. I am afraid that this new location will be uncomforable. Any advice from anyone else who has had their port moved like this. I am thinking about calling it quits and taking it out.

Gosh !!! I've had a shattered port, a flipped port, a hosing leak WTH!!! 1 surgery - the flip was manually manipulated back in place under flouro. This was out the gate - my band had to be fixed after the initial surgery which took 5 months for insurance approval because the office forgot to submit.
If your band works - at this point I don't know about letting your surgeon do the repair? I would not feel comfortable having it moved - how about restitched in the same place(mine were)? Every time you move that port around, you are creating weak spots in your abdomen. I would think it might put you at risk for hernias??? I'm no doc. I can tell you though that if I push into my former port site, there is an indentation. I am sure that the muscle had to be traumatized in some way - no way I would have kept moving all over the place.
So fix if your band works and it is a simple fix. Today if I had a virgin stomach I would not consider banding at all. It seems like we're falling like dominoes. And we go through so damned much!
Oh, I found out I had clips when I did a chest X-ray pre-op for band removal. It was weird to say the least.
All best,
Leila

My opinion is find a better surgeon. First and formost I wouldn't let him put it near my ribs because it's more apt to press on nerves there, that's why they are put where they are. Second he supposedly "fixed" it once and it didn't stay so why chance it again. It puts you in danger having a port that can't be accesssed when you get too full. I'm no band fan and don't trust Allergan or realize at all but I'd check with them to see what they suggest to solve the issue since the doc doesn't seem to be able to figure it out.
