No Wonder Bandsters are Confused!!!!
It would be great if people would post their docs instructions along with a short synopsis of how they have done with their bands...just curious...any takers?
I'll go first: 2days clear liquids, 5 days full liquid, 7 days purée, start solids day 14 (following 2 week checkup), adding ONE new food per meal to test tolerance. No raw veggies or salads for 8 weeks, then introduce slowly. First opportunity for fill at 6 weeks post op.
My first year went fine, lost about 60 lbs, no PB, etc. had 2 fills. First (3cc)at 10 weeks postoperative, second(.5cc)at 9months. At about 14 months, I started having nighttime pain, originating in the belly, radiating to back, jaw, neck and mouth. I also started having more frequent intolerance of foods that had been fine. Had complete cardiac work up, normal outcome. Complete unfill 6/12/12 due to almost complete obstruction of stoma due to scar tissue under the band and stomach tissue gathered up inside the band. Still intolerant to many foods I should be eating, but have lost 8 lb since unfill. Hoping my stomach will tolerate the band till after the first of the year, then explore my options.

I had a Realize Band 39 months ago
I had no pre-op diet to follow (except to stop eating at midnight before my surgery at 7am)
Post-op, -- no primer, no fluid in my 11cc band
Days 1-3 clear liquids
Days 4-7 -- full liquids
Days 7-14 -- soft food as tolerated
Days 14 and on ---- regular food as tolerated
First fill at 3 weeks post op
Fills every 3 weeks for a few months --- then stretched out to every 4 weeks for a while, then every 6-8 weeks
I lost steadily for 18 months --- 130 pounds (100 pounds at my 1 year band anniversary and then 6 months to lose the last 30)
I have been maintaining within 5 pounds of my goal weight for 21 months
Have had 2 Plastic surgeries and did not have fluid removed for them -- although after my Tummy Tuck, I had a small unfill because I just felt too tight ----- I have since had a small fill to make the difference back up
I don't know exactly how much is in my band (probably around 9.5cc) but I just know that it is enough to let me eat what I should -- but not too little for me to eat the quantity I used to eat.
I am grateful and happy with my WLS choice and mostly my choice of surgeon, he has truly been my partner in changing my life.
