4 YEARS POST OP..... IRON DEFICIENCY AMENIA

I haven't been on here in a awhile....My question is has anyone experienced this with the lapband?  My labwork was extremely low, so I may be referred to a hematolgist.  Just seeing if anyone has gone through this!! Thanks!!!

 What kind of anemia is it? I have had "anemia of chronic disease" (meaning that they know I have it but can't find a cause) for quite a few years. My hematologist says that it is NOT related to the band or my diet. I have low hematocrit. What should run about 13 has been in the mid-10 range for about 6 years. Doesn't go up or (which would be worse) down.

I hope you mean your hemoglobin was mid-10 range! HCT should be much higher, I donated blood yesterday and mine was 47.

I've had a number of issues with iron deficient anemia, both before and after the band.  It hasn't been related to the band.  Just with the band I have to be more careful to get all the iron in that I need.  I found a gentel chewable iron that I take.  It's made for weight loss patients.  It's made by bariatric advantage.  I found it a lot easier on my stomach than other iron pills.

Ive never had a problem before,so Im sure that it just the food choices that Im making.  My HGB was 10.5 on my CBC... My other labs Iron,serum 19..Iron Saturation 4, and ferritin, serum 6.  I see my Dr. on Monday, so I will see how it goes.  Thanks for all the input!!

 I am 2 years out and was diagnossed with this a few months ago - I have been on iron suplements and good chewable multi vitamins, which yes, I got lazy about taking for a while and now my iron levels are coming up.
