I am just waiting to hear if my insurance co. will approve my WLS. I chose lab band because it seem like a good idea. I have been obese for so long, it's time to change. I don't have a back up plan if the insurance co says no. This is it, all or nothing. Wish me luck.

You should take this time to research everything it entails.

Please take time to research the other surgeries, VSG, RNY and DS they are all explained right here on OH. The band is the least effective of the weight loss surgeries and they are finding many complications the farther out you go. No it doesn't happen to everyone one, but it is happening more frequently all the time. When I joined OH 5 yrs ago I don't recall any complaints from bandsters but now there are at least 2 or more a day. Just know what you are getting into, if you look to the right side of the page you will see a list of explanations about living with a band. Know what your options are and then make an informed choice. Good luck to you!

Thank you for the tips and support. I will keep you informed on what I decide. I am kind of rethinking my plan of weight loss now.

Be sure to read the REVISIONS forum. You'll see just how many people end up revising FROM the lapband to another form of weight loss surgery. With every passing year, the statistics just get worse with gastric banding. It's not a good long term solution.
