I had RNY in 04 and am having lapband in a month or two. Which vitamins do you take. Is it the same as with first surgery? I am nervous about this revision. I read so many negatives on this and turn around and read how happy people are with it. Right now I am 50/50 on it. Going through all pre-op classes etc. thanks

 Hi happygirl01,

Are you doing band over bypass?   I assume that you are.    You know with all the WLS....it is just a tool.   They ALL work if you work them correctly ( some better than others for certain people ).   I wish you lots of luck.    This is the vitamins that I take daily and I am a RNY patient.    I take a multi-vitamin with iron.....5000 mg. D3.....500 mg B12......1200 mg. Calcium citrate.    Good luck in your new journey.

Hugs and blessings ~~ Vivian

As far as vitamins I take Bariatric Advantage,Celebrate or Building Blocks. Very good WLS products!

As far as bandsters that are happy with their bands.........well that is kind of like you with your RNY. I'm sure you were thrilled with it the first few years. But then if you don't change your eating habits the weight can come right back. Well with the band it's a crap shoot. You may, or may not lose any weight. And if you are one of the lucky ones that do loose initially............that does NOT exempt you from all the band complications that generally start in just a few years. Of those you know that are happy with their bands............How many of those are at least 5 years out??? And of those few that are 5 years out...........How many have had a 2nd........or even a 3rd band surgery??? That's what you need to consider.

Good luck with your decision!

I do a chewable multivitamin (Centrum) in the morning with a tiny Omega-3 pill and a chewable calcium in the evening.  However, you made need other/more vitamins due to your existing RNY.

If you're still having concerns, talk to your doctor - that's what they're there for.  Info on the internet is great as it helps you come up with what you might be concerned about etc but ultimately you ought to be able to trust your doctor a lot more than strangers online.  The lapband has good and bad points, just like every WLS.

Good Luck - you're going to rock it!

Happygirl, as long as you have the RNY you need to supplement the same way as you have been doing. Normally a banded person will not require all the vitamins that a RNY person requires, but then you would not be considered a normal banded person.

Stick with your vitamins that you are on now so you don't run in to any vitamin deficiencies.
