How did you set your goal?

Hi all,

I'm curious to know how people approached setting their goal.  Did you work with your doctor? Was it your personal choice? What does your doctor say/think/feel about your goal?  Is your goal based on the chart for your height?

If I go by the insurance chart, I have at least another 40 pounds; if I go by my doctor's office, their goal is to get your BMI below 30 (overweight category and I'm there). If I go by size, well I never thought I'd own a size 12 of anything (maybe shoes-ha) but yesterday I wore my size 12 skirt. I'm thinking of re-evaluating my goal every 20 pounds and seeing how I think/feel/look.

Thanks for sharing your goal process.

My doc had one goal in mind; I had another. I actually did my goals in small, easier-to-achieve amounts: 10 pounds, then 25, then 50, etc. My ultimate goal was to be the weight I was when I graduated high school: 195. I never really cared about the stanadardized, Met Life "normal" weight lists, or BMIs for that matter. With those, I could be 122 pounds at 5'10" and be "normal." For me, that would be emaciated.

My doctor had one goal he said I would be lucky to lose 50 lbs.... pfft! I set another goal...it was an unrealistic goal but it was MY goal. :)  So I two goals....what I want.... and then what I REALLY want.....

And then the weight started coming off... and I have lost 178lbs.... I am not at my goal (either of them) BUT I can wear the cloths that I thought I would be in at the "REALLY WANT" goal.... so I am happy with where I am. I think i will drop another chunk when I get the funding to have my skin surgery...but the numbers dont really matter so much to me now... I feel good about where I am going and what I have accomplished... even now with an empty band and I have put a few lbs on...I'm okay with that.... I feel pretty good about me. I still have work to do...but I am getting where I want to go. :)  I am working to get back on track and being fairly successful with that as well. :)

Sorry if this is way longer than you were wanting.  Set several goals, and celebrate EVERY POUND!!! EVERY OUNCE OF SUCCESS!!! You will ROCK YOUR BAND!!!!

just keep swimming,

I am a work in progress...perhaps never completed or perfected; but forever working to change for the better...

Congratulations Swoosh you have done a great job.

Personally my goal is higher than my docotors. He goes by BMI.  That may be fine for younger people but I find I look older the more I lose.  I am happy where I am now but still considered overweight by BMI standards.

I think we all have to set our own goals and revise as we see fit. JMO
