Lap Band scheduled for 8/17
Hey everyone,
So, what's with the negativity about having lap-band surgery? Yes, I've done a lot of research & this seems to be the best option for me. I'm pretty sure that all WLS have problems from time to time. Instead of seeing all the bashing, I'd prefer to see a little more support.
is there anyone out there that can share their positive journey with LB surgery? I'd love to hear from you.
I'd also like to understand the difference between protein shakes & protein drinks. I don't get it :(
Appreciate some good feedback!
Thanks

Hi!
I will tell you my story!
I am a Realize band owner, I had surgery July 25,2011 and have lost about 80 pounds now (only change my ticker by the Dr. scale).
I lost about 65 pounds then hit a plateau, but with my band being tight till about 2pm due to the heat they would not give me a fearing it would keep me from eating till the evening hours.
At that time I started using myfitnesspal.com and tracked my calorie, protein and carbs.
I was overeating yogurt go figure! Too many carbs in it!
Along with tracking my food I am walking 4-6 miles every couple of days and it has helped also.
Keep in mind the band is a tool, you have to work on eating healthy and exercise.
For me this is working and feel confident I can get another 25 pounds off to hit my personal goal of 175. After that I will decide if I want to get to 165.
I feel great and have gone from a size 26w to a 14w!
I only do protein shakes made with whey, milk and ice- taste like a milk shake! Sorry I can't explain the difference.

Welcome! I am a little over six months post op, I have had one fill and I am down 100 pounds. I log everything I eat. I exercise everyday for one hour, usually in the pool. For the past three weeks my surgeon and NUT have me off protein drinks - only real food and ONLY eating when I am hungry, which is twice a day with one snack. I was forcing the protein in to get up to the 70 gm everyone talks about but my team told me not to worry about it now and to stick with only eating when I am hungry and the weight keeps dropping off.
Remember, everyone is different. I don't know if I feel the "restriction" everyone talks about, but I definitely feel full all the time!
So, I will say at this time, I love my band!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Wow, 100 pounds is amazing. You must feel like a totally different person all together!
It sounds like keeping track of my food is what's going to help keep me on track.
Would you mind sharing what you eat during the course of the day so I can get an idea of what to expect?
Thanks so much for the response.

Sue, again you just rock :)
What an inspiration.
~is there anyone out there that can share their positive journey with LB surgery?~
A lot of us can't share our positive lapband journey with you because we don't have one to share. The lapband forum is for ALL bandsters to tell their band experience. That is why you see the negativity.............so many have had negative band experiences. :-(
