I wish you the very best! Have you looked at all options???? I had my band done in 08 by a great surgeon, lost about 80 pounds, did everything right and in 2010 ,the story turns pretty bad. One day I woke up in extreme pain, burning, etc, went to Dr. , they removed all fluid, did upper GI, said there could be a slip or small hernia.......put me on Nexium. Of course, w NO restriction, the pound came RUSHING back, LOL. They tried and tried to get me back to the point of restriction that I had so much success at without succeeding. When I would get god restriction, I would have acid reflux so bad I sleep sitting up, I would throw up everything, EVEN water. I mean, just imagine yourself in a nice restaurant and not being sure if you were going to make it to the bathroom or not? It was DREADFUL! it ruined this summers vacation completely, you can be sure! Oh, and I NEVER left the house without carrying plastic bags for the ever present emergency. Basically, I gave up a NORMAL life. I started reading, and asking questions and found this to be fairly common for folks about 3-5 years out of their surgery. They did NOTHING wrong either, obviously, our bodies were not meant for a band to be placed in them! I had all fluid removed AGAIN a short time ago, and the relief was INSTANT. I will get this awful THING out and a revision to a sleeve on August 24th. . Please think about your decision, there is a definite pattern of a great few years and then BAD problems. I consider myself one of the lucky ones, as I don't think I sustained permanent damage, many folks have. My Dr. will hardly do bands anymore. You may want to look on Facebook at failed lap bands and realize bands before you finally do this.there is a wealth of information there! Whatever your decision, I wish you the very best. Sincerely, Joy Gunter
It's not the best emoticon, but here comes your positive energy:
I won't even bother to tell you that it's natural to be nervous. We'd get nervous with ANY surgery, but when facing one that can, literally, change our lives, it's a big, big deal.
Best of luck to you on Wednesday if I forget to wi**** to you between now and then. It's a busy week for me and I may not be on here much. If you have any questions you'd like to ask one of the REALLY long-timers (9 years in December), please feel free to message me.
