I really need somthing to help me and get me started on the right path to sucess instead of these unhealthy fad diets. Im so excited to get the band done, im a patient of Dr.Anoosh of Brookhaven Hospital Bariatric. Still waiting to get one more month of weight documentation then my journey can begin. If anyone has any advice or whatever for me let me know :) thank you !

Hi Danielle, welcome.

Advice? Don't expect the band to cause you to lose weight. It won't; what it does do is to allow you to be less hungry (after you have reached your optimal fill level) and to be satisfied with smaller amounts of food. Note I did not say you will feel full with less, you won't. The band works with dense foods to create a sensation of satiety for about 3-4 hours. Hunger can be head hunger or real hunger but it isn't an emergency so you should be fine to go about 4 hours or so between meals. Some people require a small protein snack between. You will follow the guidelines your dietician gives you. You will still be on a "diet". This is not a magic wand. You will do 80% of the work and the band will do approximately 20%. That is AFTER you get enough fills to help you notice a difference. You will do a great deal of hard work but the pay off is great.

Good luck to you

Also remember that everyone's experience is different. Follow your surgeon and NUT's guidelines and know that we are all here to help you.

I am six months out, one fill, eat 1 cup of food twice a day and am never hungry. You just don't know how your body and mind are going to react to the band until you get it.

Best wishes!
 Sue

Hi Danielle, I would give you this advice. PLEASE Reconsider the band. I have had it for 5 yrs and am in the process of getting it out . Its not what they are "selling"  you on . At ALL .
I would recommend you looking into " lap band complications" and read real stories about people who have ahd the band for 4 or 5 yrs and see wha their experience is .
If you click on the link in my signature my story is in my blog. PLEASE RECONSIDER THE BAND !

Hi Danielle!  Welcome to OH.  I understand I have been overwieght since than also.  I wish I could have done something at your age to help instead of waiting till in my 50's.  I just have to say make sure you do lots of research to make sure you understand everything with your WLS.

Too many people don't enough research and they think the band is a cure all.  You have to work at all WLS and get your head right.

I just sat thru another new patient seminar and they still really aren't telling it right.  As my Doc said at the Pych Eval, do your research and talk to people that have been there, done that - good, bad and ugly.

Good Luck!
Again Welcome!
