I tried to find this group but it didn't come up

I am having my band removed next week due to erosion and infection.

Is it possible to get an infection in the abdomen if the fluid leaks from the tubing or the band fails?  I have been having problems with cramping and pains off and on.  Had an upper ultra sound and a pelvic ultra sound which came back okay.  But not sure they were looking at the lapband per se. Started getting low grade fevers and the pains came and went so had a CAT scan today, the gastrointerologist thought it might be diverticulosis.  But it's not.  They did find a very small amount of fluid in the abdomen and infection.  So now I have to see the gastrointerologist on Tuesday to discuss more tests.  I'm scared.  Now that I think back on it I haven't had any restriction for a long time, about the time this all started.  A friend who has the band mentioned last week she was started at the amount of food I could eat.  I thought it was just because I'd had some wine, but I don't think the band if filled anymore.  Has anyone heard of this happening?  Should I go over to the FB 911 page and find out?  I'm sure hoping it's just the lapband.  I do know that the doctor told me the pelvic ultrasound was good and the ovaries looked good.  I was worried it might be ovarian cancer!  So I just got home and made the mistake of looking up fluid in the abdomen.  You can imagine what horrible things popped up with that.  So I'm hoping this is the lapband.  My lapband surgeon is on vacation too so I can't call and ask him.  Someone help me feel hopeful and not frightened over the weekend?  Please.  I just need some reassuring.

You might want to start a new thread with you question, not many people will read this here.

Good Luck

Thanks, had a feeling.  But thought I'd start with band problems board.

I wouldn't think a leak would cause a problem as it is just saline.  But, I have heard some people say they add dye to thiers.  But, a slip or erosion might do this.

A leak can cause infection, since material from the abdomen can seep INTO the tubing and grow bacteria, which grows, then spews out the hole in the tubing or port into the abdomen...peritonitis.

After a gallbladder ultrasound, then a Upper GI CT scan, then a Upper Scope my dr found my band has eroded into my stomach causing infection. Currently the only thing keeping my stomach from leaking is my band plugging the hole in my stomach. I and schedule for surgery next week. My symptoms are pretty much exactly what you posted. Low grade fever, stomach pain off and on, left side pain (I also thought it was my ovaries) I have severe back pain after eating sometimes. Which lead me on the gallbladder trail in the beginning as it turns out I need it removed anyways. I'd call your band dr and get it looked at better safe then sorry.
