Colonoscopy / Colyte Drink Prep
Hello all,
It has been a while since I have been here......lots going on but with a slight gain I need to reconnect!
I have to get a colonoscopy and of course have to drink the Colyte prep mix the day before........now she told me that it can make your stomach swell (I told her I had the band) she said I should try to start it earlier in the day than the 4pm time recommended to allow time to drink it slowly.
My band is on the loose side and I can drink a glass of water relatively fast.
Has anyone had any experience with it or issues band related?
Thanks,
Michele

Hi,
I just had the colonoscopy a couple of months ago. I did not have any stomach swelling from the liquid, but did start drinking it earlier at 4 pm. Because it is so gross you are inclined to chug it. As we know , the band does not allow that.
It made it all the more gross because I could only take small mouthfuls constantly. I was told to drink half the night before. Stop at 8pm. Then start again at 5 am to drink the other 1/2 and stop at 8 am . My procedure was at 1 pm. I did manage to get it all down - but so glad I do not have to do it again for another 5 years.
It is a gross experience but worth it getting the all clear results from the doctor.
Word's of advise ** BE NO FURTHER THAN 5 FEET FROM YOUR BATHROOM*

I had mine last year, no problems, band wise. Just really gross stuff. I remember reading on here that someone said there is a pill.
Just be glad when it's over and you hopefully won't have to worry about another one for a very long time.
BTW hello Michele!!!

Mari Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels!
The last time I had one (3 years ago) I had NO DISGUSTING LIQUIDS to drink. A few little pills and whatever I felt like drinking to stay hydrated. PLEASE ask your gastroenterologist if he/she can let you do it that way. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why they still want to torture people when your system can get just as clean with a few pills!
Thanks Bette!!!!
I had asked her about the pills and she said it was his preferred method.....it is a military facility so there may be a cost issue involved lol....who knows, It does seem to be a tad sadistic to put someone through that.
Hey, I guess by the picture that congratulations are in order!!!! I think the last time I was on here you were studying for EMT? Awesome!!!!!!!

I had my colonoscopy before I had my band ---- but I did eat very lightly for a few day ahead of time (soups) and let my body clean itself out naturally ---- so if I could not drink all of the prep, I would still be ok.
You should 'google' Dave Barry Colonscopy and read his editorial about it -- and laugh yourself silly!!!! It is a riot!
