 Hi ,,
Just wondering what the signs would be if your lap band had slipped.

When my band slipped, I had days where I had heartburn, couldn't keep food down, and would wake up choking on acid at night.  There were also days that I could eat and drink fine, and sleep through the night with no problems.  So, for a while, I didn't think I had a slip...just thought I was doing something wrong.

 Thank you
How do they test for a slippage?

My surgeon ordered an Upper GI. I had to drink the thick, yucky stuff, and they looked through an x-ray type machine and took pictures while the fluid was trying to go through the narrow opening in to the stomach.  My surgeon could tell from this that the fluid was staying in the pouch too long and that my pouch was hanging over the band.

Mine were the same. Man, I'd jump out the bed vomitting acid.

  • Nausea: When the band in the stomach slips, it becomes difficult for the food to pass through, making it feel like the food has been trapped in a prolapsed stomach.
  •
  • Furthermore, the stomach tries to rid itself of the food, making you feel sick and nauseated.
  • Vomiting: When the food gets trapped in the prolapsed stomach, it is not uncommon for vomiting to occur.
  • Reflux: This is an indication that the stomach acids are being regurgitated into the esophagus.

Hi, I just found out Friday July 20th, that after 5 years my band slipped.  I didn't even know it had slipped.  Other than having some heartburn at night which wasn't unusual for me as I have had it occasionally over the years if I ate to late in the day or whatever.  My band has beeen feeling like it's not quite working properly for a long time... I went and had a fill at my yearly in June, which filled it to its max.  At that time the band nurse thought it was time I had a fluro... I had NEVER had one in the entire 5 years of being banded.  Which I always thought peculiar as I know of other bandsters who have it done routinely every year.  Anyway... went in.  Told the nurse I'm probably to tight now I'm getting heartburn again... drank the liquid and within seconds she said... "uh... slip".  UGH... I could not belive my ears.  I didn't have any of the signs of it other than the heartburn... was able to eat fine...actually to fine now that I look back at it....  In any case.  She immediately had me get up on the table and emptied my band as much as she could.  Then I had to go back to the office yesterday and she was able to pull another 1/2 cc out.  So I'm completely empty until at least September 6th when I go in for another fluro to see if the stomach was able to reposition itself.  I hope it does.  If not they say it takes surgery to fix it.  Not happy.  Now that all the fluid is out I feel like crap... nausea... felt fine before.  Must be the stomach trying to move back down or whatever.  But I felt better before they emptied my band.    Anybody else had this experience?

I see why you didn't get a response...try reposting this as a thread, it just got lost at the end of this thread.  Once you do that, I'll post my response to your questions and some thoughts about your situation.
