Way OT: Job dilemma

Discuss: a company that I really, honestly do not believe in, that I believe cheats and rips off people who are either short on money or not too bright, is looking for sales associates. I can't, in good conscience, work there. I know that I would hate working there.

Am I wrong if I don't apply, being out of a job as long as I have?

That's a hard one, Bette. I worked at a job that hated for almost 5 years, and it was the worst 5 years of my adult life.  SUCKED.

I guess I am missing something....I thought you were now an EMT?

Oh, nononono! I've taken an EMT course, passed it (second in my class.) Took the state practicals on Saturday, am still waiting to hear results and then have to take the national registry written exam.

Coming from someone else who has been technically out of work for almost 3 years (Oct 2009) I would be happy to get a job ANYWHERE at this point. Especially when the unemployment doesn't last very long or get anywhere. I know I ran out of jobs to apply for in our little town so my unemployment was cut. I was even applying at the fast food places, and online jobs. Not sure about where you are, but in FL you MUST apply for at least 5 positions a week in order to continue the unemployment.

You can always quit when you find a job you really want. I guess it depends on how bad you need a paycheck. I understand where you are coming from though. Those darn ethics and morals!

I wouldn't do it (I know you are soooo surprised to hear that from ME, LOL) Unless you are about to lose your house or are starving, your conscience is more important than money.

Hmmm...tough one.  Truth is...if your belief system is that far astray from the culture of the company you probably would get fired pretty quickly anyway

I once was faced with a similar situation...interviewed with a very conservative national association.  I interviewed with gusto...then declined the offer.  I KNEW I would get canned as soon as they realized what/who I really was.
